swaan, that number your giving him 177148, we know is a gated turbo, But he wants to make alot more boost it seems, You think he might be better of with a non gated turbo, B/W Stage 1 ? Mine is a 5EK and I have a 1LW series 550 BS file in it and If I bury my foot in it will make 45+ boost, But I dont keep there very long. Pyro never hits higher than 850. just saying.......

That's a great looking 1950 Chevy truck. The engine looks great and I hop that truck runs as good as it looks when you finish.

Sounds like ite you just about got your long nose troubles smoothed out. Don't give up, we all know what it feels like to invest huge amounts hard earned money and then hit unexpected challenges. But it #### sure feels good to figure them and move on to the paydays.

Is it possible that you have a Low Nox file installed.
They typically run higher exhaust temps I think.
If not there is a leak or other problem somewhere.

I just had cat turn it up to 550/1850. Other than that, I don't know. I got all the little stuff figured out, just the little higher egts than I feel comfortable with. But we will see how the first actual load goes.

To make boost you need fuel. For what he's doing with a stock 550 flash in the ECM. That turbo is all he needs.
I have a feeling maybe his turbo wastegate is opening prematurely. Or maybe he has damage on the turbine.

    Diesel Dave Thanks this.

Your absolutly correct. I just remembered when I had the Cat stock gated turbo for my borned 435, it only produced 29/30 max of boost. When I had it flash to a 5DS 601, the stock turbo would peg over 45. However, thats when I bought my B/W Stage 1 afters. I knew that small 435 turbo wouldnt last to long. But I tamed her down a little. I felt more comfortable with the 550 BS.
To the OP, do you know which 550 file number did you get programed ?

Yeah, I'll probably be looking into a different turbo eventually. I just hope this one lasts a few mo the at least until I get a few checks coming in. Lol.

No, I'm not sure on the file number, but I coukd call tomorrow and ask.

Also, about the previous post of yours stating me wanting to make more boost?, not nessesarly more power, but if a turbo I have laying around will save me $1500+, then I will use it in a heartbeat. I just don't want to over boost the motor without a wastegate. I'm fine seeing 30-35 lbs, but if it's going to be getting closer to 40, then I would consider a gated turbo for peace of mind and motor.

How things working out with u now? 40psi won't hurt, cat engines r quiet motors compared to cummins n detroits , 1200rpm is kinda lugging low, 1400/1500 depending on terrain, hope u get it sorted out soon n start preparing for a 18 speed tranny.
