Driver jobs where your employer is the Government (better benefits), will have mandatory H.S. or GED. (sometimes this req. will be suspended due to demand)

I always lied about having a diploma for every job I've ever had. No one ever checks. Government jobs might be a different story.

I don't think this will be a challenge to him. This is like elementary math, which is simply adding, subtracting, and dividing. He can do simple stuff like that. But if he is asked something of a middle-high school level type stuff, then yes he will be completely clueless.

Wouldn't fuel fall under explosive, since it is flammable? I'm gonna try to help him get into tankers or car hauler type stuff.

I mean explosives such as used in mining or construction sites. Check with cement companies such as Robertsons; they have dry bulk tankers.

If he is that bad at even basic math, how would he do calculating how long it would take to get from point a to point b?
There are time zones involved as well.
    Hours of service?
Adding in the required break times, etc?

There is a lot of math to be done while driving a truck OTR.

He won't be doing OTR. As I mentioned he is 18 and still in high school, but he won't be able to graduate unless he can get that deal I mentioned earlier.

He is not completely challenged with mathematics. I should have clarified my original post. Basic Math that involves simplifying and stuff, is what he struggles with. Things that are basic to some, does not mean its basic for others as well.

He struggles with math that is middle school standard and so forth.

As I responded to Jerry12, that type of stuff is not hard. My friend is not mentally challenged, that something simple as Jerry12's example may bother him.

There are very few choices but OTR when starting out in trucking.

And your friend IS mentally challenged when it comes to math, from your own description.
Face the fact, and don't just try to sweep it under the rug to make someone feel better.

We are all mentally challenged in certain areas.
Ask anyone here. I am mentally challenged when speaking with people because I tend to be very blunt in my statements.
It's not that I am trying to be insulting (well, usually). But I do come across that way too much, because I just say it plainly.
