We need to make a distinction here. WE can find 60+ cpm jobs but those are LTL involving a lot more stops. For regional and OTR I have not seen a better deal for new drivers than the one I mentioned. If there are comparable or better deals, we should post that helpful info for those who may need it.
Really, what matters is our "hourly" wage. You know, the dollar amount on the pay check divided by the hours worked. Because, yeah, anyone with a year or more can go get $80-$100k in say, the oil fields but they are also working 50% more hours which is 100% more difficult.
Driving a truck is not a very skilled job and the easiest job I've ever done. We all want more money but I can't say $24-25/ hour is a bad wage for my easy, low skill job. Some people here though have a rather high opinion of themselves (to put it politely).upnorthwpg and enicolasy Thank this. -
You can call it a low skill job, but truly it takes little skill to get into driving. On the flip side it takes quite a bit of skill to truly have a safe and accident free career. Thats difference between a "skilled" swift driver and a skilled owner op.

Again, a couple of distinctions are in order. The level of alertness required to do this safely over a long period is a quality we develop (hopefully in the first few months) is not a "skill" exactly, but something very valuable nonetheless.
The vast majority of drivers are not owners and being a typical company driver requires no more skill and knowledge than a fast food job. Though it certainly takes a much higher level of attention and consistency. Running a business, on the other hand, takes a lot more knowledge and responsibility. I have been an administrator in other contexts and have some appreciation for this.
I just get annoyed when humility is lost, ego inflated, and that "entitlement" attitude kicks in where some think they are so much more professionaly accomplished and valuable than they actually are. Personally, I am grateful. I have a fairly easy job with moderate responsibility that pays me quite well. Most of the belly aching and bragging seems to me rather thankless and immature.enicolasy Thanks this. -
Your welcome.

Wow, what a lot of irrelevant bragging. Again, thanks for showing us who you are. Really, it helps in determining who is worth listening to.

It annoys me how many people brag about their pay but refuse to say the company's name. Whats the deal with keeping it a secret?
