Hello! I am looking for a company that has a CDL school that have great hometime for me. I am young and I am also a competitive powerlifter/state record holder and I want to continue to train since that's my hobby. I have my permit with tank endorsement with dot card already.

By permit do you mean temporary or do you already have your class a cdl and if so why do you need a school?
What do you consider great hometime?
Let me be the first to shed some light on this for you...what you want everybody wanted when we first started and recruiters and truck driving schools told us it was no problem....
for every 1000 drivers that want that job 1 may actually find one that lasts for a little while but guess what...it wont be you...
i live near you and was promised all the same by everyone around you....
after a couple of years you may find an ltl company who will hire you in nashville but without any experience it wont happen..
with 6 months experience my company will hire you and get you home for weekends if that would suit you but you gotta get the experience somewhere and most companies with schools make you sign contracts for a year or 2 ...
good luckChinatown and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Oreily is always looking for local drivers.
Always asked me when I was dropping off batteries.
Its down the road from the coke plant. (Which also is home nightly)Chinatown Thanks this. -
CTL Transportation has their own CDL school for hazmat/tankers. One year with them and then go with fuel haulers in Nashville.
Many drivers work out while on the road; you just have to learn where the gyms are. I've seen Gold Gyms everywhere with trucks parked in the parking lot.
If you don't want fuel hauling, then as tow614 posted, there's many LTL outfits around Nashville that will hire you with 12 months experience. R&L Carriers/Saia LTL/Estes and also Cardinal Logistics at the Associated Grocers Warehouse in Goodlettsville.
As for working out while on the road; many drivers carry folding bicycles and go for bike rides on the road. You could do the same while taking your break at a truckstop. Ride the bike to a gym. A folding bike you can carry in the sleeper.Last edited: Apr 12, 2015

Certain flatbed companies may get you home 24-48 hours per 7 days. I know Roehl offers this in that area and has their own CDL school.
Milan Express might hire in Nashville and has a school. I am really not sure if they are a good company though.
Roehl has many hometime options, but, of course, you will probably make less.
If you get your own CDL, ya might have more options.
Millie offers 1.5 days per 7 out, otr
I am in Lawrenceburg, about 70 miles below you, and am looking to start. I am down to Roehl or Millis. -
Knight and Roehl have the best home-time options I have seen.

Yeah food service would probably be best for u. I started out of school with company in Nashville ( closed now) made really good money, hotels while gone, and home every other night. Unloading 53ft of groceries is workout.

Wilson Trucking decent starter LTL company. if you can drive they'll hire.

Knight or Roehl? I have no bills. I just want to make about $500 a week after taxes. Why truck driving? I only had 1 job in my life and it was at Fedex Ground. I worked there from age 18 to now 21 as a package handler. I just quit in March because Truck driving was pretty much what I would consider a "promotion." And I was making an average of $100 a week there for 2 years. Which one has the best hometime? What is regional/Dedicated? OTR is not for me.
