Okay so I need some advise on when to actually start sending applications, I am starting school on May 27th at the local Community college here in Meridian, MS for those that don't know that is East Mississippi about 15min from the Alabama Border on the I20.
I am of course interested primarily on Tanker work, but I know that beginners can't be picky and I understand that but as Chinatown says the worst thing they can say is "no." Also would like to be home on a weekly basis or at least monthly but again that is not a deal breaker its simply a preference.
Still I have heard many different opinions as to when to fill out that application. Some say as soon as you start some before you start then others say to fill out as soon as you finish school... Just wanted to know when I should, hell I have plenty of times in my hands now I could do it, if it was appropriate to do so.
Thank you.
Ok it looks like its finally happening: So when to send that application in?

Some start a couple of days before school starts. Do it that way or the very first day of school. If it were me, I would get all my information together and submit the applications the very first day of school. This way the companies know you're already enrolled and attending classes.

Look at flatbed and the tanker company's. Both of those seem to have a better chance at being home most weekends.
If it was me I would wait till I have my CDL, since the company's will not do anything with the paperwork till you have everything anyway. It costs them money to do the background checks and the DMV check. So they will not want to spend the money on anyone that does not have their licence and med card in hand.
The best they can do before that is say that they will consider you when you get out of school. And that will just be from looking at your app. They will not do the background at that point. -
I started sending them in and getting prehires 2 weeks before graduation. I had passed all my qualifying routes and state requirements by that point and had my certification to take to dmv in hand.
Left school friday, started orientation Monday. -
The school should have some resources, companies that use their student grads, check with them for sure.

I would also look up Professional Driver Agency, they were at MATS last month and work with students who have a CDL to find them employment, I think they can help find what you are looking for before you get your CDL but I am not surebut check with them for some advise, it couldn't hurt....
