I have been truck driving for 12 months and I love it. I started with CR England in February 2015. Now that I know what I know I wish that I took another route to get my CDL. CR England paid me .14 cents per mile and they put me under a contract which prevented me from getting another job while I was under their employment contract or I could buy them out of the contract by paying them the sum of $7,500. Needless to say I didn't have $7,500 laying around. So I stuck it out and fulfilled my contract over 9 months. I am OTR driving 48 states. When my contract was completed I quit the next Following day and joined Swit with no contract because I did not attend their school I worked for Swift for 3 months. Now I have 12 experience with a perfect drivingrecord I am now moving to a new company that pays .38 cents per mile. The good news is that with this company I only needed 3 months of experience to be hired. They allow me to have my pet on the truck with me if I choose. I will drive Western Regional with 14 days on and 3 days off. I think I will enjoy working for the new company. In fact I would like to bring along a rider for 14 days so the rider could see what trucking entails.

If you want OTR, I'd go with Crete but not Shaffer. If you live close to any LTL or Food Service terminals, check them out. Some take new drivers and will let you do more than just drive.

I actually ended up going to a small family owned company that gets me home every weekend and sometimes mid week I get in to the house. I got a new truck 2016. 0.42 cpm. I avoided the Mega carrier bs. I was the first trainee that made it through training here. I like trucking and I think I did OK starting out.

Yes you did very well. The bigger companies treat you like a number and for you to get a 2016 truck you are doing extremely well

I originally was given a 2006 midroof that had 700,000 miles. It was dirty and I cleaned it up and ran it for a while. They pulled me out if it and got me in a new one. The 2006 was a ten speed, the 2016 is a automatic. It's governed to 70 MPH. I dislike the automatic, other than in stop n go traffic. The new truck is a condo. I've put around 75,000 on it. I run, WI,IL,IN,OH,MI,KY,TN,GA,FL,NC,SC,VA,W.VA,MD,PA,NY. I run what needs ran and don't cry about it. I make money and get home. It's a good time.

Contact Valley Transport in Ashland if you're entertaining the idea of flatbed. Kinda wish I had started with them back in the day instead of TMC. But it all worked out. They "USED" to hire new grads.
Edit: Just saw you had a truck already. Congrats. Hope it all works out for you. Be safe. -
Where did you decide to go? I'm about to leave US Xpress
