You go the the User CP, Two over to the left of the green donate tab. Click on that and scroll down. You will see your dots in the middle. Sorry, if you knew that.

I have mixed feeling about the green dots.
Whereas I appreciate them when they're constructive, I think they're a sort of popularity contest.
Is there a way for a poster to opt out of them?
I find myself worrying about being dinged with a red dot, and that causes me to avoid replying to certain posts that I would normally respond to.

Also, what purpose do the points serve?
Again, I feel like it's a form of popularity contest and not totally fair to all the posters who may not be well known or avid posters.

A collection of green dots can be a target for disgruntled posters with a grudge, and they ruin a good thing.
If it's better, as has been suggested, to just ignore them, are they really useful?
Of the red dots I've received, most, if not all, were un-warranted.
Although, of those who dinged me with a red dot, most have become cyber friends.
Ain't that just the craziest thang? :biggrin_2552:

I associate red dots to being thrown off. I can laugh about my "dings." I don't have ANY problem with someone not agreeing with me. When I post in touchy threads, I expect it. I can relate to a handful of people on here that I know we are on the same page. More than most I think to myself, they've got to be kidding or how can they not know that. I don't "ding" them until they "ding" me. We are responsible for what we say. If I posted exactly how I felt most of the time, I wouldn't be here VERY LONG. There would be some that I would push to be voted off of the island, in a heartbeat!

I agree with you in some sense that the GREEN dots may be used for popularity.

I usually give green dots to members who are really giving an effort to help others on this board, Whether it be by good information or good positive feedback.

As far as getting red dots, I came to the conclusion along time ago that no matter what I do or how I do it, I can't please everyone and some where along the line, someone is going to disagree with how I dealt with a situation. All I can do is try my best.

Iam not going to say that you don't have a point here about that popularity thing, cause you do.

The point system's intention all along was to give good points to those who help, assist, engage, give good feedback and so on.

I think in some ways we are all friends. Some are just closer then others is all.

The members that have been with us along time that have quite a few infractions....I respect them just as much as I respect anyone on here.

It's a give and take situation. We are all different but yet the same in many ways. Just some members are more outspoken then others. lol
