That's the problem with most people...they talk the big talk, but when it comes time to walk the big walk, they instead choose to tuck their tail between their legs, bend over, and take whatever it is being dished out. I have little respect for that type of person. If you aren't willing to follow through, don't waste your breath or my time.

 

Yeah but it sure does make for some good terminal talk....then you see all the same guys back in the terminal with cameras in their truck.

 

I wouldn't think this would be the demise of Swift either but I would think that a company as large as Swift that ends up having some success with these cameras in all of their trucks will set a really bad precedent that maybe some more companies might follow. I know there are other companies that are already running these cameras but none are as large as Swift.

I guess who leaves and who doesn't is going to come down to who is comfortable or can live with this kind of intrusion. I'm not knocking anyone that can deal with it - more power to them. But for me I see it as crossing the line of what is acceptable to me. Something like this rolls out and it would be great to see it come and bite them back.

 

If they work exactly as depicted I would have little problem with it.
I don't think I have ever had a critical event, and if I did I never heard of it.

They are going to be phased in over 6 month periods, from what was said in the video. It sounds like many others will get the cameras before OTR dry van gets them.
I'm curious as to one thing though. Is Swift Central the Central Refrigerated people?
Either way, I should not be getting a camera installed for at least 6 months.

 

Yes to your central question. It's considered a different division. Commonly referred to as "the wet side"

 

Well today while driving I was asked about the camera by other companies and if I had it etc. which I don't. Seems like many are informed and watching this situation. We need more attention.

 

My DM got back to me today and mentioned that l/p trucks are excluded.

 

And I agree.

Given the number of outfits who make it a point not to be like Swift, I think it's the not-so-large companies which have already set the precedent, though. I mean, it's easy to come to the conclusion of, "well, Swift's doing it, so that's the first sign that I shouldn't", but if you run a fleet the size of, say.. I dunno.... Navajo, Fortune, KTS, Hendrickson, countless others which can be named... then it's not so easy to be dismissive when a comparable fleet to your own runs them and reports success with them.

I tend to think it's more a matter of who'll tolerate it. I doubt too many will be entirely comfortable with it, but will they tolerate it? Swift's betting on the answer being yes, and I'm just finding it hard to doubt them, given all the other #### the industry has been willing to tolerate.
