Has anybody switch from duals to super singles? How much weight did you truly save? Needing some real world experience. Thanos
I believe Double Yellow has done this with extensive research, I know he wrote up some spec's somewhere hopefully someone can provide the link. Just search super singles.....
converting to aluminum singles from aluminum duals saves ~500 lbs for 4: If you convert from steel dual rims, supposedly you save an extra 250 lb (750 lb total for 4). From post 107: http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...dependent-thread-post4341336.html#post4341336
Yea, I think the weight savings and then the replacement costs for a tire and rim when they go flat and drivers don't stop in time added up to where in the long run they lost money versus the few extra pounds of freight they could haul, plus the fuel savings might not of been there.. Not sure on the fuel savings part, so please don't quote me on that part
I drove for a company in the 70s that had had singles on their trailers, but they had got rid of all singles except for one trailer. I believe they tried it and it was not worth it and slowly got rid of them.
I had them till winter came here in michigan. Could not get going in the snow and was a nightmare on the road they would break loose in a heart beat. Driving 35 mph afraid I was going to jack knife any second. It is not worth it.
Swicthing to Singles is something I want to try, I already have TPMS system and I run the Southeast only. traction wont be a problem down here
