I, too, hope you get some responses to your query. I have researched this company, along with several others, and they sound like a good company (actually the best of the companies I have researched). I have been told they have about 400 company trucks. They are a part of FFE corporation, handling mostly dry freight although they do have some reefers for a few dedicated accounts. I have been told that, unless you live in Wash. or Oregon you won't see those two states. Also, little or no freight into or out of Florida.

I have not found a driver yet (I have spoken with about 15 to 20) who has anything bad to say about them. The only "negative" driver I spoke to had just transferred over there three weeks before from Lisa (another FFE company) and somehow payroll/HR messed it up and listed him as terminated with Lisa and that was causing problems with child support not being paid. They were routing him back home to straighten it out. Otherwise, they all say they get good miles (most solos reporting in excess of 3K per week) with only a few slow weeks. They did say that the percent of drop and hook has decreased lately but they are good about getting loads shortly after delivery.

I am certain they may have issues because no company is perfect. However, the drivers all like the small company mentality where people know you by name. Like I say, this comes from discussions I have had from about 5% of their drivers. If all goes well, I plan to join them in September. Maybe we will see each other there if you decide to lease on. Best of luck to you in your research.

I have been researching this company for 2 days. I have found alot of information about them.

Yes, they are FFE!!!! FFE has a lawsuit against them by 3 o/o.

The people we have talked to at AEL have not been up front with us as far as having to pay for certain things. We have yet to see a contract which is a red flag.

They told us we we would have to get a physical through them, which we just had ours in Feb so we flat refused to do that.
They want to inspect the truck and put their inspection sticker on. Big alarm with this also as they have not told us they will be charging us for this.
I have found out that they don't tell you about the many things they force you to purchase until it has been deducted from the settlement.
Although an o/o is not suppose to have forced dispatch unless stated in the contract, they told us they cannot promise that we won't have to go to Calif. Not being an employee we will not go to places we don't want to.
I also went to fmsca to see how their safety stands. Not good! There are red flags and their percentage is high.
We were going to lease on with this one. We are at the end of being checked out and everything is clear at our end. Late yesterday afternoon we received several phone calls asking us not to go with this company, that they have many things hidden. The lawsuit is one major thing that is bad about this whole thing. Definately don't need to go to a company that other o/o are suing them.

When a company is not willing to send you a copy of their contract so you can read it carefull for a few days before you decide to go with them, even when they come up with an excuse that sounds legitimate, I suggest not leasing on with them. They have things they are not telling you.

If you are a member of ooida you can send/email them a copy of any contract to go over and tell you what is in it. This is really a good idea in protecting yourself.
I just suggest you do some researching yourself like I have. The one thing that really can tell you about a company is by going to fmsca to see their safety record. If the percentage is high this will tell you that the company is pushing the drivers to drive illegally, forced dispatch, and not a company to go with. This is a RED FLAG
If by any chance anyone knows of a good company for a o/o team please let me know. We are looking for an honest company. They are so hard to find.
    Thanks

Thanks for that info. I intend to become an o/o and I agree, there are red flags there that could change my poisition on them being good.

Thank you for the information. The only way anyone can ever find out the truth about a company is through several of their drivers.
This really is a hard decision to make. We just don't want to get ourselves involved in another bad company.
We can deal with a few problems as long as they don't try to skim miles off the top, or charge us for things we have not agreed with.
I appreciate the information and so hope others will post something about this company. We really would like to give it a chance.
    Thanks

All the drivers I have talked to are company and are very satisfied. I told some of them that I was thinking of leasing and they weren't thrilled with that. I have yet to find a lease driver to ask them what they think. I know many company drivers have no interest in being o/o so I don't really know how to interpret the reaction.

I am torn between these folks and US Xpress. Both seem as though they would fit my needs well and when comparing several aspects of the companies they both seem fairly close. I could make more cpm with USX but American Eagle drivers are reporting more miles than USX drivers. Keep posting anything you hear on here and I will do the same. If nothing else maybe we can help each other with this decision.

American Eagle is not a good company to work for as an O/O. I will write more later.

AEL is a division company off FFE

Spot pricing.... Notwithstanding the foregoing, from time to time, AEL and Contractor may agree upon a different spot pricing rate for a particular load. In such event, the spot pricing rate will temporarily supersede and replace the parties agreement in terms of linehaul compensation as is otherwise agreed upon in this Schedule B. The difference rate will only apply for the particular shipment for which such an alternative rate is offered and accepted. This different pricing rate will not in any manner whatsoever directly or indirectly affect any future load or any other term of provision of this Schedule B.

MILES......Mileages for purposes of computing compensation in this Schedule B shall be the SHORTEST distance over authorized routes utilizing the HOUSEHOLD GOODS CARRIERS.

Deadhead or empty miles.........will be paid at the rate of 0.85 per mile, provided, however, that no deadhead or empty miles will be paid in connection with (i) any load accepted by contractor, if the last previvous load offered by AEL to contractor was rejected by contractor, or (i) any off duty personal miles.

Dentention/Layover....contractor will only be paid if billed and paid by the customer. Payment to the contractor will be negotiated on a per load basis, provided contractor will be paid no less than 60% of the amount paid by customer.

Fuel surcharge......When the cost of fuel is volatile, AEL wil pass through a fuel surcharge ("FSC") for all loaded miles based on the average weekly price of fuel posted by the Department Of Energy. The contractor will be paid a FSC pursuant to a table identified as FFEFMS. This table will be available at AEL terminal locations.
Please note::::: NOT ALL MILEAGE LOADS MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR A FUEL SURCHARGE. Some mileage loads (such as broker, spot pricing or other assignment loads) may incorporate the FSC in the mileage rate offered.
There is so much more but I feel that you will get the picture of what these companies are about.
I figured by time I put the my truck on with them I would be fortunate to have enough left over to eat on.
The qualcomm was another thing. Charging a weekly fee for it.

The thing that really gets me is had this company been up forthwith from the start not only the expense they put out would not have happened, but I also would not have wasted my time learning what kind of people they are.

OWNER OPERATORS ooida says GET THE CONTRACT FIRST
Have THE CONTRACT SENT TO YOUR HOME AND READ... READ... READ. If you are a member of ooida you can also send them the contract and they will look it over for you, therefore advising you what your options are.

I am fortunate enough to have seen many contracts and I know what to look for. After reading this one for 3 min told me exactly who was going to make money and who was not going to make any money.
With this one there are things in it that I cannot even begin to figure out what they are talking about. Very confusing.
I honestly hope that I have helped anyone who might have been thinking about leasing on with these people. Even to lease one of their trucks I advise not doing this. If you decide you want to call ooida first. Please do this to protect yourself because these companies are not looking out for you to make money. Their huge pockets are full, and yours will be empty.
If anyone would like to discuss this please let me know. But I think just with the small bit I have written you will know what you need to do.
I wish all drivers the best of luck, just please never make a decision without having someone look or help you with it.
May your miles always be safe ones.

    Hi rixcamp
We were pulled out of the orientation class and sent over to ael office. An employee from FFE went into the class and told them that ael had filed bankruptcy that day. We were NEVER told this by ael. That night the drivers came to us and told us about the bankruptcy. Nothing like being deceived. After really looking further into their contract I noticed this:
    MERGER of Understanding;
This agreement sets forth correctly the effect of all preliminary negotiations, understandings, representations and agreements between the parties and supersedes any and all previous agreements whether written or verbal. This Agreement and appendices shall not be modified, altered, changed or amended in any respect unless in writing and signed by both parties
Notices Any notice or communication between the parties hereto shall be made in writing and addressed as follows: If to AEL: FFE Transportation Dallas, Tx
    Does this tell you anything?????
American Eagle Lines a Division of FFE Transportation Services, Inc.

My advice is this; don't waste your time with this company. When they can't be upfront about filing bankruptcy when they have told everyone else, this is one company not to talk to.
