Should I get off my mentor truck or tough it out?

Ya that wouldn't work but you should get a new mentor. Pee jugs are not allowed also so that alone would get you off his truck.

So you knew you were too close to the trailer on the blind side. You knew the idiot telling you to keep coming back couldn't see it from where he was standing. You kept going back anyway and you hit a stationary object. After hitting it you didn't get out to check out the situation, you just pulled up and then got it in. You got p'od then and let it slide, presumable content in the knowledge your trainer is an idiot and it's all his fault.

Yeah, a new trainer would be a good idea but what can't be taught is to use your head and to be responsible for your own actions. Regardless of who's training you you better learn real quick to take control of your situation or you're in for a rough and short trucking career.

    Good luck.

Not saying its all his fault. Your right I do take responsibilty, but on the other hand as I mentioned in the post I tild him I need to pull up and he tild me no keep coming back. I should have just pulled up even if he said no, but at the time I was less than 24 hours in his truck and trusted him that I should keep coming back. I dont blane him I blame myself because I knew what I should have done

Btw-you sound like you would be an amazing mentor. Will you mentor me

Yep, first day on the truck. Everything is new to you and you've got a whole lot to be thinking about without having to question whether the guy who is supposed to be training you knows what he is doing. A good learning experience.

There's a lot of pressure when you first start and a lot to worry about. Just keep your head and don't let yourself get pushed into a bad situation. When in doubt check it out.

When I started trucking me and my trainer said same thing, shouldn't be training unless you have about 5 years OTR. He had 3 years and was telling me this, but I had an excellent trainer at Stevens.

When I hear these horror stories it is pretty unbelievable to me. The driver who's trainer parked in front yard and left trainee in truck for a few days is still the one that trips me out.

Well I havr great news. My mentor went into the clinic to get his physical renewed and they put him on 2 week medical hold because he doesnt have a print out for his cpap nachine. Wy doesnr he have one? Because he doesbt use it he said. So he is quitting. So now I drive us back to home terminal where he and I will be cleaning out the truck. Lucky for him I am with him or he would be stuck here in phoenix becausethey wont let him drive.

I spoke with driver development and they want a statement from me and will be assigned another mentor.

Amazing how things work out. Eh?

Thank you everyobe for the info and support.

    One love...

    No, it doesn't.

The entire system needs to be revamped.
The trainers need to earn their money from properly training new drivers, not from running a team operation.

There doesn't need to be new regulations, there needs to be a new mind set at training companies like Swift.
Pay and incentives for mentors to properly do the job, without having to resort to a team operation to make that money.
And disincentives that would keep those trainers on the right path.

Good lord please no more federal programs/oversight. We have been killed by the Feds on every level. I am a fisherman who barely makes 6 figures every year in Alaska. I have to work 16-20 hour days for 3 1/2 months straight. I could spread that out over 6 months if it wasnt for too much oversight. I answer to 3 Federal Depts and 3 State Dept to even be able to operate. I am looking to get into trucking again and cringe at anyone even whispering about unneeded intervention.
