so inj cups 4 & 5 are leaking exhaust gasses into fuel & also turning fuel filter black & putting black soot in tanks. on my ser 60 detroit. shop said detroit does not sell a aftermarket kit to seal the injectors but interstate mcbee does. he said they go on the end of the injectors & should seal up, but there is a chance they may not work, in that case we have to pull the head. anybody have any info on this repair. I never heard of it. what is the % of it working 50/ 50? they told me to just keep on eye on my davco for the next week & see if I still have air bubbles in fuel filter. any thoughts on this procedure?
found cause of air in fuel. need opinion.

I would pull all six and re-ring them, and install the graphite washer and larger secondary o ring. If you are getting air bubbles in the davco, you most likely have an issue with the lines, fittings or pick up tube in the tank, before the davco

i will answer in the best of my limited Detroit knowledge and am surprised that a Detroit wizard has not answered. Maybe it appears not worth answering to them. How does anyone know if 4 & 5 are leaking, only them, without removing all of them and do you still know 100%. Detroit does not sell aftermarket parts because they are the manufacture and their parts should be the best. Some 60's have removable seats or cups under the injectors. I would have all the seals under injectors and cups replaced if you are there with the head still on. If compression is entering fuel, bubbles or foam can be seen in fuel tank return. Air bubbles in Davco can came come from fuel supply line problems.

What year is it? It doesn't make any sense to me that they told you to check the davco for bubbles for compression getting past the injectors. If you have bubbles, you have leak on the suction side, way before the injectors.

I already replaced all fuel lines. pick up tube cannot be replaced it is welded. I did a test a while back read about it I think on here, to test the suction line. using s 5 gal bucket of clean fuel to also test the davco. replaced all davco parts too. Iam glad the shop found the 2 inj leaking, at least NOW I know the source of the air.

air bubbles in the davco are not comeing from injectors there on the suction side trow the davco away problem solved
armo Thanks this. -
they said they checked & checked return lines. he said pressure test revealed which injectors were leaking. about 7 years ago I had a 6 pack put in at my local freightliner dealer, they told me something about them puttin in as best as I remember over sized -o- rings to help against any problems? I also read on here or the only other detroit forum I visit about if fuel is turning black & air is in fuel than exhaust gases are getting tru injectors, if it was only air & not the the black soot, I would not be thinking injectors leaking. the shop owner used to be top manager at williams detroit in B-ham.

well that would be easy, cause my davco is over 20 years old, came with the truck. it is the ole style 380 they are not expensive & would be easy since everything is there already. I just hate throwing parts at problems, jut to find out the ONE part that needed replacing. not to mention I have 15 spare filters. this type davco has very few parts than can cause air leak, unless there is something internal. the top, bottom -o- rings & collar seals good, new shut off valve at bottom, the 2 fuel lines are tight & new, no leaks there. I would not have a truck with out a davco. if not for the black soot I would replace davco as a process of elimination, but the soot tells me injectors as told by the experts?

well they told me to keep an eye on it & see how it does, don't remember if he told me specifically to watch the davco. I know that is where I see the bubbles.
