One of the bad things is that the only company they can verify would be his current company for employment verification because he's been there for years and obviously his former employers wouldn't have any information on file for him to verify since it's been over 10 years since he moved jobs (which is a good thing - he doesn't just job jump!). He said he's prepared for it and besides if they are verifying his employment that that means he got the job and there shouldn't be any issue that he can't deal with for too long at his current job. If they give him too much of a hassle he said he would give his notice and take a break before he started with Walmart. In any event, he has to get through pre-trip and road test in 6 days before it is an issue anyway. Fingers and toes crossed. He is not stressing too much but we are both praying he doesn't screw it up by being nervous! LOL He knows how to drive and he is a very safety oriented driver!

Well, interview and test was postponed until next week. Issue at the DC....so the waiting continues.....

That is the toughest part. Rick applied at the end of Aug 2012 and started orientation Dec 2012.

Hi, my husband is in the interview process for walmart and he's very excited and nervous at the same time. Are there any tips you can offer for the phone interview, pretrip and road test? Any info on starting salary and benefits would be great..he's been driving for 14yrs and the last 10 have been with Fed ex, also very clean driving record...so we're keeping our fingers crossed. Thanks in advance for the info.

The interview, pretrip, and road test info is in Matts thread "Walmart Here I come."
As for starting salary and benefits. He can expect to make at least $80K his first year. I do not know which DC he is applying for, but benefits are regional, so he will have to ask HR what their benefit choices are for your area. They offer different options, so you can pick what is best for you. One of the best benefits, in my opinion, is how great they treat the drivers and the stress free environment. You are never pushed to do anything and work at your own pace. Just do your job, and the money comes.
Your husband will be relaxed when he is home. It really is hard to explain until you get to witness it first hand.
Benefits include medical (partially paid by Walmart), dental, vision, stock purchase (with a discount), 401K after first year (up to 6% 100% matched by Walmart), short term disability (paid by Walmart), long term disability, discount card, paid holidays (at ADP), paid vacation after 1 year (at ADP), uniforms provided, safety bonuses quarterly, great equipment that is maintained to a very high standard, cookouts all the time, etc.drakon88 Thanks this. -
Thank you so much for the info!

Hi everybody, I'm new on this and I'm trying to get some information for my husband.
He filled out 2 applications with WM, one on 03/21/15 that has been under consideration for about 2 weeks and filled out another one on 03/26/15 that today changed from under consideration to application received.
Can somebody tell me what is the next step on the hiring process??
Thanks!!! -
The next step will be a call from bentonville to schedule a phone interview. If he passes that then he will be called to schedule a pre trip/road test with the safety manager at the DC. be aware that if he accepts an interview with 1 DC, it will remove him from any other DC's list so if he has his heart set on 1 particular place, he can either hold out or try his second choice and transfer after 1 year.

Thanks for the information, we're so excited to know that my husband has been considered for the next step and I'm praying for him because he's been talking about working for Walmart for over a year until he decided it was the right time to look for something better.
One more question: how flexible is the HR dept if they decide to hire my husband??
We live in AL and he applied to Sealy, TX and New Braunfels, TX. Either is a good option for us. I just would like to give the 30 day notice to our landlord and have enough time to pack.
Does anybody can give me opinions on which area is better (Sealy or NB), considering that we have 2 little kids and we want to give them a better life?? -
I'm not really sure how that works. I live in Atlanta but work out the Opelika Alabama DC. I do know they give you 2 weeks from the time they give you a final job offer and the start of orientation. Most employers want at least a 2 week notice. Drozzer69 works out the Sealy DC. He started and contributes regularly to the "Walmart here I come" thread. He could give you great info on the particulars of each DC. Good luck to you and your husband. Working for Walmart is a life changer.
buckskin76 Thanks this.
