I looked there . then I read a post somewhere with complaints about them selling bad trucks so I thought I would post here and get some opinions . I never take that one opinion as being the facts as a whole . there is always a few unhappy customers in any business .
Still have to find a company to lease out to . So far I have got that old " you need two years otr ..."

Why do you say that ? I just have good credit and a few bucks saved up .
What do you mean by partner with someone or a company ? I thought that was sort of what I had in mind by buying and leasing out . You got to realize I can not just pack up and move out of state for 3 months or longer just because boss does not want to stick it out during the slack pay times like every other grain hauling company does . Hell it's agg work . Prices up and down all the time . I was not complaining about pay . I was just sucking it up and hanging in there .

8 years . Get a new job is what I am working towards . I actually was planning on staying here for at least a year but that has turned out to be maybe not possible .
When i first started out I worked for a guy local end dump hauling a lot of mud and digging that crap out by the tons from my trailer with a shovel . this guy had no money . I bought fuel and parts all the time . he owed me thousands of dollars at a time and maybe a month or two with no pay and then a some pay and many bad checks . I sucked it up and stuck it out for 3 years . everyone thought I was an idiot . but I had a plan . I needed that 3 years experience so i could go get a better job . I found it . Great job , best one I have ever had and only job I ever liked doing . I made good money and went home every day . Anywhere from 900 to 1800 a week for doing almost nothing . Might not be great money in some areas but here in Ks that works just fine . Now if I lived in Ca then I would be living in a closet for that money ! Got tired of a certain employee so I called it quits and decided to haul grain . Something different . Having no experience in this limited my choices . Not to mention finding a grain hauling company is not so easy . It's not like they advertise . I took the job and now it is not so great but still trying to stick it out .
So with limited experience in hopper work it is not so easy to go find a otr job . they all want that 1 or 2 years otr experience . I think I would have more luck if I owned the truck . then at least I could do what ever till I found the right outfit .

edit : I forgot to add in that I started with end dump guy making about 21 K year and then that dropped down to 15k for the next two years . I still sucked it up . My bank account was drained by 10K by the time I quit .

I bought my truck in Wichita, KS at Ireland Truck Sales for $19k. Financed the truck at Bank of the West down the street. $4k down, bank cut me a check for $15k at 6%. I had the bank setup the loan as a commercial line of credit I could draw against if I needed more money down the road. Titles in my name with a lien on it from the bank. Easy peasy.

If you're flexible in your choices, Krazman, you can find what you want to do. Buying a truck is always a risk no matter what, new, used, you just have to do your best. Look at Ritchie Brothers auction for up to the minute truck prices, but a price on paper or the monitor is just a fantasy until you look at, drive, and test a truck in person. Just remember to have some money after the purchase, because those payments, bills, and costs will not slow down.

Lone mountain was a good fit for me because at my age then, 22, I hadn't established much credit. So I went in there with $6200 down and a 2 to 5 year business plan, assured them I had my head on tight, and they approved me. Yea, my clutch went out a month or so later, yea my injecting cam went out after a year or so, yea I replaced my turbo out of preventive maintenece and yea I replaced many other parts Inbetween getting dirty myself doing whatever I could before sending it to a shop. But She became my baby either way. I think the chances of getting any sales company to stand 100% behind all repairs on a 500k+ mile'ed truck is VERY VERY slim anyways... So with that being said I would suggest Lone a Mountain to just about any. One. - with the disclaimer of, get a DYNO done, research that engine, look for different colored parts attached to the engine block! --To me Meaning the more the merrier, because less I'd have to replace later. ,check the truck over GOOD, tires, brakes, leaks, suspension, track rods, leaking shocks. Also a truck from a company that uses APU's are a plus because they were idel'ed less. I got a used PRIME INC truck from them. They occasionally get them. But if u go get the first truck LM has to offer, then yes u may get a Lemmon. Like my pops used to always tell me, "don't be a compulsive buyer!" Common sense right! Lol GOOD LUCK

First check Craigslist. Get a truck with out dealer mark up. Pop for a dyno test and oil sample. Really I would like to get a code scanner to look at history.

    Second truck paper.

Third, Walk into a truck dealer and see what they have. See what they would finance. I have done this to see what I can get approved for.

Fourth. Go to your local bank ask about a commercial loan. I have done this too, on Friday. Just getting my eggs in order. How much you need down and how much to hold back for repairs.

Lastly, how old of a truck you going to get? Egr no Egr. Def or no Def. Are you going to be able to lease it on to who you want? Have you sat down and talk to who your going to lease on to?

I was looking there yesterday . Was not sure how their trucks were . Was looking at a 2006 columbia . then I noticed it only has a rear axle weight of 20,000 GVW of 52000 . got any idea if this is 20K per axle or for both ? I would think it would be both but... Then not sure if 52K GVW is enough to be hauling 85500 Lbs. But then I do not know much about this kind of stuff since I never had to deal with it before .
