    Hi folks,

I just have got used Uniden Grant LT made in the Philippines in unknown working condition(visually looks very good). Is it something to consider for the car or not?
If it is in good working order I hope magnetic antenna I used with my Cobra would work with Uniden as well, correct?

P.S. My Cobra 29 half died, I do not hear static and air is very silent, but when I hear something it seems, like it is someone very close to me, no noise, just clear loud sound, so I am not sure what happened.

    Thank you for your responses/info.

Any chance that the RF Gain control has been adjusted away from its fully-clockwise position on the Cobra? That would lower the background noise *and* let only local radios be heard. Just how local would depend upon that control, how tight the squelch control is set, and the state of the antenna. Did the Cobra formerly work and then suddenly quit while you had it? Or has it been that way since you got it?

Have you tried another antenna on the Cobra? It's entirely possible the cable has been ruined inside the coax on your existing mag mount from either moisture or being pinched where it enters your car. If that's bad, neither radio will work with the antenna except for very nearby.

Any model of the president or uniden grants are awesome radios. I've had a couple different ones over the years, never an lt, but currently run a grant xl in my pickup. With a good antenna they're hard to beat. Do like handlebar said and make sure your antenna is in good shape.

Sounds like a transistor is out in your receive......have had it happen to me and have seen it occur many times. Easy fix for a competent tech. Can be attributed to lightening during T-storms as well as other things. (I'm not a tech, just repeating what I've been told by a Tech)

Could have a dead-short in the coax (or one of the connectors) on the Cobra...I would check the SWR and see what it is before continuing using it.

Thank you for your ideas, as a new to CB I appreciate your well rounded approaches. Yes, I have tried to play with controls, I think it is something different, like mentioned T-storm, we indeed had one or two at that time frame when my radio changed. I just have tried two other used radios with the same antenna/cable and I hear static/conversations as I have heard previously from unit in question.

Hopefully Uniden is in a good order and I would use it, had not have a chance to check due to lack of 5 pin mic.

I would guess my antenna should work with Uniden as well as it did with Cobra, right? I mean, it may be a little bit better or worse, but not, like I need to buy new antenna, am I right?

Thanks again and have a nice safe weekend.

I always liked the Grant. I would fix it if I were you. (and yes I know a good tech. He has resurrected many a radio others have deemed "not repairable".)

    Thank you again,

I hope Uniden is in good working order and it do not need to be fixed. I plan to go to CB shop for 5 pin mic and hopefully check radio at the same time.

You can get a 5 pin to 4 pin adapter that will let you use just about any 4 pin Mic with a 5 pin radio...check eBay...they are about 4 or 5 bucks.
