Unfortunately my 10 speed driving was in Corona, CA with a ridiculous amount of traffic and construction zones. Usually sitting on the freeway or moving at 15 miles an hour, not much chance for down shifting. I got really good at shifting between 4th and 5th. Lol. This is one of the reasons why I am moving my family to Boise!

My understanding of it is that if you damage someone else's property or get in a wreck during a driving test such as what the one fellow described above, that will go on your dac report. If it's just a straight fail, you'll most likely be given some recourse to retest like the others have said.
-
Do your best not to scratch the gears but if you do do not panic and lose confidence. They will be more concerned on other aspects of safe driving rather then how good you shift.

I guess nobody taught you reading comprehension, because I am describing downshifting and gear recovery in this response.Guitar Man Thanks this.

That was kinda rude.. Not to mention, I'm not sure what your point is- seems like he understood downshifting just finemoloko Thanks this.

And watch the tandems on tight turns that you don't have a lot of room, you can see the path they're going to be taking and be able to adjust. Your road test is probably not going to have anything that crazy, but a lot of companies fail you for hitting a curb. Most times, once the tandems hit the curve, you can make the turn tight.

being the senior driver ,I give road tests when in town.
I tell them;
if you scare me that's it. really.
all tractors are different,so gears will be hard sometimes. even had the linkage fixed of my truck of 4 yrs and started grinding.lol it was too tight.lol
relax, we know your nervous,but can you drive when nervous? of course you can!
do a good pre-trip, check the king pin after hooking up,ask if truck has any querks you need to know about.
pretend your doing a test drive to buy it! -
Well said Numb...I always tell Newer guys--just think back to your first road test when you were a kid drivin mom's car w/a state trooper--you were nervous and you got thru it....relax

What I do to impress the road tester is down shift into every single gear when I am
Decelerating and when I flick my range selector , I give it a good, hard and loud snap just for effect. Haha , and on the freeway off ramps I might skip two gears going down. Bonus points if you can use the jake brake to decelerate.
