If you want to start immediately you have to try a private school. Swift does not work that way, classes start every wednesday. You have to get in line with the rest of us knuckleheads.![]()

Thanks for your positive view on Swift, pawpaw! I will be training in San Antonio. I haven't seen any comments from that area. I know I can't afford my own training. The schools that will finance wan't too big of a down payment. I have since seen some neg comments on other companies--one that I thought was supposed to be the best.

Bigdogslim: Are you going to train with Swift also, or have you already?
-
Yes leave for Texas next week, Its been about 2 months. Was not trying to be negative, there is enough of that here already. Especially when there posts about Swift. You can try and contact the school and see if anyone has dropped out ,failed physical, drug test, etc. Does not hurt to try, meanwhile you can pick up a copy of the Texas CDL AND STUDY.

Wow! you'll be here next week? Cool...let's try to stay in touch...let me know about it...My recruiter said they won't let you in unless you are on the list. (I asked if I could just show up and fill any vacancies. I live 1.5 hrs away)...but maybe if I call the school directly they could do something before I get there.

I got my recruiter and my application all straightened out. Luckily the wait for the Phoenix, AZ Academy is only 2-3 weeks. But I asked to wait until September anyway.
My problem now is I need to get a copy the AZ CDL Manual so I can start studying. I have been calling AZ DMV all day and not much luck. I also sent them an e-mail??!!
How much do the CDL manuals/tests vary from state to state?
Can I just use the NM CDL manual? I also have a Utah CDL manual that my brother in law got for me.
I've been studying them off and on for about a year now and taking the practice tests on Schneider's website.
It's getting close and I'm getting dialed in! I intend to succeed!!!!
Any input from Wes? Can I get the Swift academy in Phoenix to send me a CDL manual? -
The CDL manuals are free in Texas, just walk in to the DPS and they'll give it to you. It's also online, if you want to download it...Maybe same in AZ.

I believe the one NM gives out is actually from Missouri. At least it was when I studied for both school bus and class A.

One thing for you newbies to driving must understand, that in order to succeed you need a good trainer who care about your training, and not just making him miles. If you have a trainer who does either than you need to get a new one.
1) starts you off at driving from the terminal, and then after two hrs goes to sleep
2) when it comes to backing he wants you to do all the driving and him/her the backing, because they don't have time to waste watching you.
3) Sends you on your way or tells you to go and take a shower, so he can have a lot lizard for a hr or two.
4) Wants you to drive on his time, so he/she can get extra sleep.
5) doesn't know how to slide tandems or 5th wheel to adjust the load to meet regulations.
6) Never does a pre/post trip inspecton.
7) Never takes a shower, and his truck smells like ####.
8) If you don't get along right from the begining.
If anyone has anything to add or that I missed please feel free to add on..vickw Thanks this. -
