Picked up a peterbilt with a big cam 400 the other day and it is so quiet. I heard a guy say you can drop a battery down the stack and when it heats up corrode and blow out inside of muffler. Is this true? Tia

Been hearing that one for years. Bet the batteries would make a nice rattle and if they do eat ghe baffles it'll probably eat everything else too.

I heard that 20 years ago_Only thing is I like to breathe the air around us. Think of the lead you would be putting in the air. Why not just jam a rod in the muffler a few times.
If the battery would eat the baffles, why not the outside pipe also.
I have never done it. I like the quiet exhaust.

Not too difficult to smash the baffles out with a big pipe..Or take the muffler off and insert a pipe in its place.

Stright gasoline in the cold pipe would do a better job and let it sit there for a day or so. But is a hell of alot more dangerous if your stacks are not stright up and make sure pipes are pointed away from anything.
May blow the hole muffer off, never happen to me yet.
It dose work and I have done it a few times.

Yes it is a flame thower.

If it got a Catholic converter on it, that's probably clogged up.

Most replace it with a new one or swap it for a stright pipe or drill a big hole threw the middle and slap it back on the truck.

Drop a battery in it, go up a long grade under a load, then pull over and pour water down the hot exhaust pipe. Speeds up the corrosive effects. I know someone who used to do that to company trucks to make them sound better lol. I'd be pissed if someone did that to a truck I owned.
