I know a lot of us are also veterans, or have family or friends who are. This is disgusting, disgraceful, and exceedingly disrespectful. Feel free to share.

    Under Armour Disrespects WWII Veterans

Recently UnderArmour.com released a shirt called “Band Of Ballers”. I was informed about an hour ago and at a complete loss for words. I couldn’t believe a company which has many military contracts, spends so much on veteran charities, and claims to support or military and veterans would create and sell a shirt like this. The message, for those of you who are clueless as to while I’m writing this article, is a mockery of the pictured taken at Iwo Jima.

Before jumping to any conclusions I decided to see if I could find it on their website before I began to share or slander a company I used to love promoting. After finding it directly on

my blood pressure began to raise. I again, couldn’t believe my eyes that a company such as UnderArmour would produce this atrocity. Showing such blatent disrespect for our Marine Veterans who fought and died raising that flag.

It seems the veteran community is in outrage after this incident has been posted on some of the top Military related pages on Facebook and Twitter.

As if that wasn’t enough we search UnderArmour.com and find more. They call this one “Crossing Over”. [IMG] To all our military followers and supporters, current, past, and future… this is an absolute mockery of the Marines raising the flag in Iwo Jima. Comparing it to a basketball hoop? Common Under Armour, I thought you were much better than that. Under Armour has officially lost our business. Do not forget, we have a voice.. Let’s get this shirt taken down ASAP!

It was over priced to begin with now you could not give me any of their clothing. And I had a grandfather fighting for the Germans. The other one drove a tank for the Americans.

Um, you do realize that was a photo taken of a few men struggling to re-raise a flag on a windy day? No one died raising that flag.

The fighting had been over for quite some time and military brass decided that a bigger flag, visable from farther away, would be better for troop morale. But it was very windy at the top of Iwo Jima and this was a big flag, so it required more soldiers to work together to raise it.

It was a good photograph -- and one the US propaganda machine used to sell war bonds. It seems perfectly appropriate that someone else commercialize it...

Wow. Really butthurt about this? Seriously? Wow. It's more like a tribute than anything to get mad about.

It isn't a tribute. It's mockery. It's offensive and disrespectful, comparing basketball to battle.

I realize that the 'official' photo was staged. It's not the photograph itself; it's what it represents. To me, it represents a time when more people were proud of their country, supportive of the military, and believed in what this country stood for.

I am not getting into a political discussion. Whether or not you agree with me is irrelevant to me. I posted this for those who remember and honor those who made the sacrifice.

I will always, always, support our military. That does not mean I always support the government.

Most rational people support the military. But this is outrage for nothing but to be outraged. I'm going to buy more under armour now because of this.

That is your choice; I accept that, and I respect your right to make it. I don't have to agree with it.

My first reaction was that it wasn't a big deal, and then I thought about it for a while. I'm not outraged; I'm disgusted and disillusioned. This was one of many links I perused, and written so that even those with little knowledge of the history of the image (and I am in no way including you in that group) could understand what a lot of us find offensive about this. It's by no means the most well written. It's knee-jerk, but it will make some people think; that's never a bad thing.
