CB radios

That's a good enough reason right there to have one. Could be your tire smoking, yourtrailer doors open, dragging a maxi across the highway, no trailer lights, or dragging a car stuck under your trailer, and you might not know it unless someone tells you on your cb.

 

My husband and I's marker lights went out completely last night and we had no clue untill a furiously honking rig zoomed around us screaming into his CB- We dont have one, and now were both scared to pieces knowing that we could have been in a fatal accident just because we wernt in contact with other drivers who probably tried to warn us... we're new drivers, so talking to more experienced drivers still seems intimidating, but im glad that who ever that guy was, he is a safe aware driver who probably saved our lives a few times over, before we got to a safe pull over to change the fuse, by warning other drivers with his cb.... were picking one up tonight.

Then, all you have to do, is guess what the other drivers phone number is, call them up and let them know.

 

Yes get one, you can talk to other drivers to get directions, traffic reports ect. It's better to have it and not need it. Loves has the bearcat 880 on sale for 80 bucks, the cobra 25 and 29 are good too. 18' of coax and a francis stick will get you going. A center load Wilson with just enough coax to get from the cb to the antenna and then tune the antenna would be better but more expensive.

 

I agree with tanktrux. Better to have one and not need it. Can't tell you how many drivers I see with trailer issues that I try to alert on the CB just to find out when I pull next to them that they have no radio. Not everyone can read lips or sign language. Plenty of good uses. You can buy them with your truck stop rewards points also. So in reality, your really not much out of pocket.

 

I seem to be in my unfair share of traffic slowdowns lately and it has come in handy for finding out the lane I need to be in to get by.

 

CB keeps you awake too and busy when traveling with a convoy at night . Unless you listening to coast to coast or a trucker station on the am/FM/Sat Radio.

 

For $30 bucks why worry. Pick one up. Use one when you want. Turn it off when you want.

Until other truckers put their cell on the the back of the trailer you will not get any information from them. Many warehouses rely on CB to dispatch doors. Why be left out?

 

They don't anymore, because too many don't have a CB.
Some would like it, but they will call you on your phone if need be.
Everyone has a phone these days, and it is getting to be the best way to communicate. Even for the customer.

 

i used to deliver frequently at a place in philly where the guard shack would call out on the cb when it was your turn. many times ive heard him call out to a particular truck and get no response from "cb-less driver." i could literally hear the guys blood pressure elevating several psi's throughout this one way exchange. and most times said driver would be skipped over. so there are still places that rely on the cb over screwing around calling someone. imo a cb is a quick, conveinent, and relatively cheap tool to use on the road, and occasionaly good for a few laughs...
