Alright guys and ladies I had decided to go with Roehl about 2 weeks ago after I graduated from Peak Technical Institute CDL school in Tennessee (awesome btw). I just finished phase 1 of ttaining and I am now hired into the company so heres my recap;
They paid for a rental car that I picked up the day before I left. All I had to pay was for fuel which they reimbursed me for. On Sunday, everyone had to be at the Comfort Inn at 1900hrs. I showed up way before and checked into the hotel. It is very nice. Big room that you share with another person but thats not bad at all. Indoor pool, wifi and a weight room. At At 1900hrs we all got into a convoy and took the vehicles to the airport in Chicago, IL and they shuttled us back. Next morning, the hotel has a continental breakfast at 0600. The shuttle taking us to the terminal got us at 0630 every morning for the 8 days of phase 1. First day was pretty much all paperwork and the D.O.T physical. The terminal has a resturant inside of it which in turn Roel gives you a food voucher for lunch and dinner daily. Food they make is pretty awesome.
Day 2 was a safety breif on how they want you to drive and explaining how safety conscientious they are. They believe safety is a value not a priority which is great. A lot of companies will prioritize it and put you in harms way. We also went over D.O.T rules, regs and laws. We went outside later in the afternoon and practiced close quarters backing.
Third day was backing and more classroom training. We also got to use the simulator which they also went over techniques on how they would prefer you to drive.
Fourth day was spent either in the simulator, pretripping and driving the truck around.
Day 5 was the last day in the simulator. We also went out most of the day driving. Today was a test day for driving. They evaluated us on how we drive and back.
Day 6 brings us to saturday. This day was spent all day in the classroom going over load securement. We went over the types of loads and how to secure them. This was very indepth.
Day 7 we spent all day outside doing load securement. We split into 2 groups of 4 and practiced the knowledge we leaback.in the classroom. They has a pretty good variaty of loads to secure and this was also a test day to see if you are capable of performing.
Day 8 was graduation day. We all passed and got hired on. All morning was spend filling out hire paperwork and touring the building. After lunch we got our trainers name and when we were leavi g for phase 2 which will be 10 to 14 days with a trainer.
Overall my expectations of this company were exceeded. They actually care about you, your needs and well being. The CEO owner still drives too which I thought to be interesting. Every driver that I had the chance and pleasure to talk to new and old has said how high they think of the company. This is by far one of the best on the road. Cant be bias and say the best because I havent been anywhere else BUT so far I can see myself staying quite a while. There is a lot of room for advancement both driving and off road shouls you desire later on to come off. They also have specialty divisions that once you gain experience you can move into. I would highly recommend this company to anyone experience or not. This is one of THE places to be. If anyone has any questions or comments send me a Pm or just shout it out. Im sure I missed a lot since in kind of flying through this! Thanks for reading!
My very recent Roehl experience.

Let us know where your at after 6 months to a year, lol, still wet behind the ears. Good luck though not the worst but by far not the best. You'll get some good needed experience there for sure. And the training isn't bad at all.

That's good to hear. I hope it all works out well for you.

Sounds like things are going your way! Good luck, and keep us updated.

Hi All,
I'm a newbe as well and still in CDL school with some decisions to make. Can anyone suggest some of the better companies for a newbe to break in with? I'm trying to not step into a nightmare or on a land mine right out of boot camp. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I'm in the Midwest. -
coming into this industry right now is gold companies hire brand new drivers when they wouldnt hire people with 2 years or more of experience a few years ago. reading these comments like i went to roehl makes me scratch my head i sometimes wonder if is that the only place by them or are current truck drivers stuck in time giving bad advice to start at these places because thats what they did. i know alot of you sissys will say whats wrong with roehl or swift or sni but lets face it if you work there for 40 cents a mile and you can go to yrc or od and make 54 or 60 cents thats a huge pay diffrence and they run you to. dont think cause your new that ups or any other company wont touch you truck drivers are the scum of the earth in peoples eyes nobody any more wants to be one
