Hi. My father has been a trucker for about 15 years now. He's spanish and gets a lot of slack on the road because of it. Lately, the job has really been getting to him. He lives in South Florida and the economy is falling apart down there, and the price of fuel these days doesn't make the situation for truckers any easier. With that said, his company is taking full advantage of him and these trying times. For example, last trip he went on they payed him 140 miles less than what he traveled, and when he brought it to their attention they told him that if he doesn't like how their paying that he can go get another job.
Because of his poor English, and his age, there really isn't much that he can do. With the economy the way it is, quitting and finding another job isn't an option. He just has to grin and bear it for the time being.
My father is an incredibly hard working man and an amazing father. He was a political prisoner in Cuba for 9 years. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for him.

With all that said, and I appreciate the time its taken to read it all, I really want to get him a worth while gift this father's day. It just so happens the date falls on his birthday as well. However, I want to get him something he can use. He has a hard time buying shoes and he hasn't had a new pair in a while, so i was thinking about buying him some nice driving shoes. I like the Geox Breathes ones, but they dont come in a wide size.
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, we live in different states. So this isn't possible, plus chances are he wouldn't let me buy him anything... it has to show up on his doorstep with no return label =)

But thank you kindly for the suggestion.

Good idea, especially from a loving child. I understand your situation,so think about this......a prepaid credit card so he can purchase the shoes he can find and fit in. No sense in trying the guessing game, along with the hassle of shipping wrong sizes back and forth.

    woodstock,

I tried Zappos, but unfortunately a lot of the casual shoes don't come in his size (10.5 W). Great site though, free shipping and handling both ways!

    and

    RoadWarrior,

Like I said, if I gave him a prepaid credit card, he'd probably give it to my mom to use. He won't accept money from me!

Thank you guys all for your suggestions. Keep them coming!

I would really appreciate some suggestions as to what kind of shoe is best for a truck driver.

Wolverine made a steel toed black wellington that was perfect for drving. No shoe laces and when you go into the sleeper you could just kick them off an if you had to put them on in a hurry you had no problem. Sounds like a good driver and age or his language shouldn't have anything to do with finding another job. He can look on his days off so it wouldn't hurt to look.

I should have mentioned that if you do by chance find what you are looking for online, most of them offer gift certificates and they send them to your e-mail, maybee that way he would be more willing to spend it on himself.:biggrin_25525:
