So I have been out of the trucking industry for about two years. I graduated from a very reputable driving school and am PTDI certified. I drove locally for a Soft drink company doing all local deliveries and home nightly. I worked there for about 6 months and left in hopes to find something that paid a bit better. That didn't work out. I ended up going back into auto sales ( previous experience) I've been doing that for the past two years and I realize how much I hate how little I am paid ( very good sales person, just a bad pay plan at the company I am at) I want to get back into the trucking industry where I can make good money. I miss the work and the money. Currently have been putting applications in everyday with no success. It seems most companies want a refresher course, which I can not afford, being the school I went to charges $3900 for the refresher. I am currently in the Scranton / Wilkes Barre area looking for a local get home daily/ nightly job. My CDL is current and in good standings. I have a tanker, passenger and hazmat endorsements. If anyone knows of any companies I can look into, please feel free to let me know. ( I want to start yesterday, that's how much I want to get back into the trucking industry) :biggrin_25511:

Sounds like you're going to have to want it enough to take a refresher course.

I loved the car business, I just started to hate the people in it. Today "car salesman" = "lot lizard/clerk/lot boy". You're lucky if you even get to 4-square a deal.

Back in the day we did our own deals and appraised our own trade-ins and made good money... and the greenest greenpea drove home their first night in their free demo.

Car sales in those days was possibly the best sales training in the world, and you got paid to get it if you paid attention.

Bolus in Scranton may be an option. Kane freight lines in Taylor as well, but you'll do better with them if you have 1 year CDL experience with NYC metro. Exel in Tunkhannock hires yard jockeys and shuttle drivers that are home nightly. Also check with Calex or R.C. Moore in Pittston. Those are 'home weekly' jobs.

I love the car business, but the company I work for sucks. The owner is a #### and only cares about "his profit" doesn't care about his employees. I'm good at what I do and would make much better money at a different dealership, but unfortunately I am under a no compete contract for 2 years of leaving. As I said, the owner is a ####!

Non-compete contracts are generally unenforceable. He probably knows this, and won't come after you. Don't let the non-compete scare you.

That's the modern car business. Sell 12+ a month and he'll at least pretend to care about you.

Probably, but an NCA for a car salesman isn't worth the paper it's printed on, it's strictly a psychological ploy. You don't think they only use those on shoppers... do you?

When I left the biz turnover was ~equal to that of drivers. Everyone knew you were 1 phone call from another job (and they'd pick you up at the store you were quitting), but that job was rarely any better than the last, just different scenery, different scumbags trying to skate you. Today there are stores where the sales staff isn't even allowed inside the building w/o a customer in tow unless they need the restroom, and they may count and time those.

I'll never forget the "variable mystery pack"; you weren't to be told what the pack was on any particular unit after you sold it. I excused myself from the "meeting", made a phone call. When the meeting adorned, I was already gone.

With respect to RC Moore, don't go with them unless you're willing to run illegal and enjoy lots of BS from above. The boss in their Pittston terminal is terrible to work for, IMO.

Be prepared to be run all over the clock. One day they`ll have you come in at 6am the next day 3 in the afternoon. If you can get on a regular schedule, its O.K. but keep checking your pay summery because they make mistakes all the time. Another thing, if you have to hire a lumper, make sure you keep your receipts from the warehouse or they will take it out of your paycheck. And finally what they do is if you drive unauthorized or drive out of route, you`ll have to pay for the fuel used and they won`t tell you until you see it in your paycheck the following week. Oh, you have to keep reminding them of your monthly safety bonus or you won`t get it.

LOL...I have been with this company for over 1yr and I have NEVER EVER been made/asked to run illegal. If I was ever getting to point where could not drive due to HOS, Overweight, Service Issues, etc then I stopped with no pushback from dispatch at all. If a driver was running illegal then that is a choice that he/she made upon themselves.
