Shaffer, of course is the refer division. You will be payed 1cpm more than on the Crete side but you will not be able to get as many miles with refer loads. Shaffer does a much larger percentage of live loads and you will spend more time at the loading docks. You will also have appointments at all hours that will mess with your 14hr clock. Dry loads are generally geared more toward regular business hours and are less problematic.
I pulled a refer for a few years and have no desire to go back to it. Just not worth the aggravation. It really depends on what you want to do.
Crete used to be very liberal about switching between the two, but I've heard that they aren't as accommodating these days. You might want to contact your recruiter.

I got one of those thank you messages too, maybe terminal managers have be instructed to send out "good job" messages to counter some of the frustration that is floating around.

I can't imagine they would do anything if you keep running at 65. I'm sure 95% of the fleet is doing just that. I've been doing 62 on and off. It's not easy putting along (not that 65 is exactly burning up the blacktop), but I try.
APU's - I read in the handout that they will have A/C power to run small appliances, but it didn't give the actual wattage.

I actually had an A service at the Salt Lake terminal the other day and they apparently didn't have the right equipment to turn me down. Lucky me ... for another 15,000 miles ...
I never did get the Qualcomm message about all this, but it sure has been the talk of the terminals when I've been through. Never heard a word about needing to run 62 before they turn the truck down, either. -

I need to do a B service (I'm 2000 over now), I'm not looking foward to 62 mph.... Reminds me of the Swift days, running 60!!!! When running I-80 dont forget to put your helmet on!!! I laugh everytime I see some trucks running 80-85 mph in the hammer lane then slow down for a slower truck then speed up again - I know there burning there profit out of those stacks and if there company drivers there probably making 26 to 30 cpm...
