I am given a set amount of CVSA decals each quarter. When I run out (and I do every quarter) there is nothing I can do to get more. I am required to make a notation such as "not available" on the inspection report where the decal number goes. I advise drivers to keep a copy of the inspection in their trucks and happily make them a copy if they desire.

If I were to just not give out decals then the report would register an error. CVSA Decals are trackable and we can log into the system and see when and who issued them.

Keith: Thank you for your perspective and in some way it is comforting to know you too have to put up with many levels of administration but as a Member of The CSVA shouldn't you bring this administrative matter up with the CSVA as you mention this happens every quarter or to your supervisor? Either that or petion the CSVA to give up the entire sticker program because the way it is being currently administered renders the program meaningless and maybe this is what you want to have happen as then you won't have to deal with tracking these stickers giving them out and allowing CMV drivers to be on with their business...

So I followed up with the NYSDOT in Albany this morning. I left a message and recieved a call back within a half hour. Spoke with the Administrator who is responsible for CVSA decals on a State wide basis. He said that since it was the middle of the CVSA decal period the inspector should have had decals. He mentioned that I should keep copies of my reports in the truck which of course I do. I mentioned to him that the decals are important since once an inspector gets up from the picnic table at the Rest Area, you are going to be inspected regardless of what is in your Regulatory Binder. He said the inspectors shouldn't be sitting on the picnic tables. All in all a good experience and hopefully this particular inspector will soon have his decals...
