Looks like I am shoving off from my toils at Werner.
I have an odd question. (really odd)
I always botail home since I don't have room or an area to secure my truck and trailer together. I have to go from north of Detroit, MI to Springfield, OH to turn in my truck.
Here is my thought: To save on gas and to avoid having to take the Greyhound bus (yuck) I though about puttin' my motorcycle on my cat walk. I measured it and it will fit. I have a Freightliner Century with the complete catwalk and full side steps. The bike weights about 850lbs. I could secure it to the frame; and when I get there I could ride if off the side with a little help from a home built ramp. I could roll the bike off at the terminal hotel and toss the ramp in the dumpster. Take the truck to the terminal and take the terminal shuttle back to the hotel... Ride home. No one is the wiser?
I don't care about company policy here. I just care about what Mr. DOT officer will say when he sees a bobtail with a bike strapped to the back. I tried to get into a weight station today to ask, but they were all closed.
I wont be under a load when turning in my truck. But I will be on my driving clock. I don't see how it matters to the DOT since I am not transporting goods. I see this no different that the guys that put their mountain bikes up there.
What do you think.
My motorcycle and My company truck.

That would be up to your company.. I doubt they will let you do something like that.. Companies like Werner have so many rules its ridiculous..
-
Wow... A great idea, but I too think that your company would get in a fit about it. They would likely be facing major liability issues if the bike fell off for some reason while you were going down the road. Plus, is there a rule about external cargo? Good luck and keep us posted!

There is no scales in ohio to worry about unless they put in portables the one on I-75 south is closed never reopened after the storm hit it over a yr ago
-
I posted earlier that I dont care what Weiner thinks. They wont ever know anyway. Re-read the post.
I forgot about that scale.
I just wonder about a roller seeing it going down the road. -
I would say so for it. It's not like you have a long drive. Good Luck and keep us posted

I actually thought about installing a hydraulic motorcycle holder thingy on the catwalk, if I ever wind up with my own truck. Out of curiosity, what on earth kind of bike do you have that weighs 850lb?! A Goldwing or Harley dresser?
-
sorry, it was 750 lbs. Its a Harley Heritage Springer. Lots of Chrome doodads.
-
this is an idea I was also thinking about, the bike I plan to use in more within the 500lb range. It would be soo cool to accually have a bike on a truck, so when those 34hr resets arise. You can still be mobile.

Don't need to re-read your post I still know what you said today.. You think that your actually going to get away with something like this and Werner not catch wind? lol boy what world are you living in?? With all the immature kids coming into trucking that still have that high school mentality your not going to get away with it.. Some childish tattle tell is going to rat you out as in most cases where drivers get caught doing something they are not supposed to.. Not to mention brown nosing trainers that will report it as well.. Take it as you want, I was just trying to keep your DAC clean for you..
