I worked for Heartland for 3 months. 300 miles and sit for 10. Didn't get over 1800 miles for any week. Maybe they are better now since they bought out Gordon

I've heard amazing things about transport America! I wouldn't mind driving for them.

I'm not a recruiter for either of them. I'm currently a cook and a friend and I want to try and get on as a team for averitt to get our start. We're going next week to start the process with Tennessee truck driving school to get our CDLs. I've been researching policy and he's been looking into company reviews. So, we've put our heads together and come up with a plan to get out of the kitchen and onto the road. He's mentioned Transport America as beeing a pretty highly rated company that is friendly to vets, so I'm keeping them in mind for when we break off and go solo.

Hmmm I see you're in Knoxville as am I.
I went to Tennessee truck driving school in Sept of 2013.
Anyway TransportAmerica's starting pay for experienced drivers is .33 which is trash (it's on their site).
Averitt is regional and they pay a bit better but their have strict polices such as must wear uniforms, no showing of tattoos and even facial hair guidelines and you can't bring the truck home.
I worked for Crete which is in Knoxville area and they pay well and none of that BS is there

Well, I've heard they're very vet-friendly, home on weekends and that the pay is good. I could be wrong, of course, these are just rumors. Maybe "amazing" was too strong of a word; I've been known to unintentionally exaggerate my wording a little sometimes. :)

experienced drivers start at .33 per their website, that's not good.
