I think Southeastern Freight Lines has a terminal in San Antonio. They hire new CDL grads and have excellent home time. Coastal Transport has lots of local jobs. Plenty of OTR tanker jobs available also.
Coming to trucking. First post on this forum. And I'm excited! Airborne!

Thanks Chinatown, I'll put them on my list of potential companies over here. Already have about 6 I've been looking into. I appreciate it

There's lots for you if hometime is important. Some not the most ideal trucking jobs though, but you will be home often; companies like US Express, Averitt, Sysco.
The big bucks is with tankers and you are in the hiring area for Trimac Transportation; not easy to get on with, but worth the effort. 24 months with them and then move to the "Elite Fleet" and make over $100K per year.
Western Dairy Transport is OK and worth the time to submit an application. They usually want a year experience, but many companies are bending their hiring criteria now for high quality applicants.
Schneider has a dedicated account with Costco.
SOS Liquid Waste Haulers - starting pay $14.00 hr. & home every day.Last edited: Jun 3, 2015
TexasBoy Thanks this. -
Glad you said that. I already have Averitt, Schneider on the list, I heard they were great from what I've been seeing. I'll add the others. Shoot, $100K annually and I'll be a happy camper. I think I saw an add for Trimac, was around pleasonton if I remember, right outside SA. That's where I'd prefer to work, heard the business is good out there for tankers.
And Schneider is my #1 on the list right now, I've been looking into them alot. I did see that dedicated route on their website but they're hiring for their tanker division too with no tanker experience.. think it was in Laredo which I'm not too worried about, like 2 hours away from SA depending on speed. But yeah if I can find a local that would be great so I'll definitely look into SOS.
I saw Chalk Mountain too down here for tankers but they want 18 mts exp. Oh and Stevens Tanker division but I'm not sure if they take newer people like Schneider does -
By the way. I started up a thread with my school experience over here as I go by the days. If yall are interested here's the link. Figured I'd might as well make one so people see what it's really like from a students perspective.

Nice to meet you as well, TexasBoy.
Hazmat tankers are where the big money is. Specifically, crude oil and fuel. Unfortunately, most of these companies require at least a year experience.
Running a vacuum truck could help you get your foot in the door, especially in the oilfield.TexasBoy Thanks this. -
Thanks for the advice RockinChair, I'll continue to do my research and see whatll work out. All of yalls input is greatly appreciated . Glad I'm getting my foot in the door finally!

Looks like they want 1 year experience and currently only a single full time local position open.coastal is about the same with experience only.
Going through companies and looking at their req is def taking up a lot of time doing research, but you have to do it for you and your newborn.. congrats!! I too am in San Antonio and have a few things I'm trying to figure out like Kllm/ffe,Schneider dedicated, and a couple others on the outside of Dallas, for at least a year and get the experience and def be good to get local but for me local is too much hassle lol. -
Websites aren't up to date; Southeastern has their own CDL training program and Coastal hires new CDL grads.
I tried local and hated it from day one; some love it, but I hated it and only like coast-to-coast.
