Recently have gotten my CDL permit and my DOT physical and I'm thinking about applying for Swifts school in Richmond . What is there to expect and the process for a student already with there CDL permit and DOT physical ?

If you go with company training it is like you don't have anything at all, or worse.
Worse because you are already on the clock because your permit is only good for a certain time.

You will still go through the same training, and do the DOT physical at least 2 more times before you are hired.
You will get a new physical when you start training and another when you go through orientation.

Unless they do stuff different in VA i went to the TX school (was living in LA) i only took 1 physical before i went to school and didn't have to take another one. As far as the school you learn just enough to make you trainable. The real training starts when you go out with a mentor. Swift is a start company. It works for some doesn't work for all. If nothing else it gets you in and gets you a year of experience then move on. Or stay depends on were your at in life.

Yeah I'm just trying to get a year under my belt but if like it after the first year may stay. How long do you go out with a mentor? How was your experience ?

Well 209 btw hours is the minimum. Usually about a 4-6 weeks. As far as mentors their are REALLY good ones and REALLY bad ones. Luck of the draw. I am still here at swift almost 2 years. I almost left but changed terminals instead which made a world of difference. It has its ups and downs everyone's experience is different but they work for me and alot of other people.
