That would only work if they were shipping a load back to Mexico.
For most Mexican carriers, operating in the us is too much of a hassle, easier to just change trucks and or trailers at the border. I've pulled a Mexican tagged trailer owned by Transport I Soto y Hijos to a factory in Arkansas.
It was in top notch shape, even had a central inflation system for the tires, something our company trailers lack.
Didn't get hassled but I did have an Arkansas state trooper follow me on the skinny roads for a while, lol.
Anyone go south of the border for Dental Care?

Lot's of peoples comments on Mexico based on what they read in newspapers, but there is whole lot more going on there.
Of course if you travel there and doesn't want to blend in a little and make no effort just to say one word in spanish, mexicans folks will treat you like an atm machine.
But if you just try a little bit thing will be different, i am blessed to speak english spanish and french and every times i visit either the US or Mxco it is always a pleasant experience.Prof.Gringo Thanks this. -
My point is that if one is going out of the country favoring foreign workers instead of Americans because of cost then I hope one is not the first to scream the loudest when a company lays off its workers and takes the factory overseas to save on labor cost.
I guess when it comes to actually putting your money where your mouth is, Americans fall a little bit short. (Pun intended).Last edited: Jun 6, 2015

HI All
I want to thank everyone for spending their time responding to my thread. Ive done some preliminary research. Supposedly u don't need a passport for goin within the 12.4 mile border zone if you stay there no longer than 72 hours. If you do stay longer than 72 hoursyou have to buy what they call a Tourist Card for something like 25 bucks which is good for 6 months. I sure hope that's all u need to get back into the U.S.
I also read if you want to drive your car you have to purchase a Mexican Vehicle permit. I was wondering if they cut you some slack if you use a rental car?
If I don't rent a car will the best dental clinics be within the 12.4 mile border zone? If I do walk across the border will there be cabbies to pay?
Thanks for all the help!!

Nut...if you go into Mexico without a U.S. Passport, you WILL have issues coming back into the states. The U.S. doesn't let anyone walk/drive in just because they speak perfect English. You will NEED that Passport.
Also, you can WALK into Mexico (at least in New Laredo, Mexico) and find TONS of Dentists within walking distance. They are everywhere.
You won't have to worry about picking up a tourist visa and filing it out from the immigration office. If you're just walking around for a while, fear not. The immigration officials in Mexico would NOT let you file one out anyway if you have no Passport because they use the Passport number and a few other things from it in order t file out the tourist visa form. -
People out here in so cal go to the dentist in Tijuana all the time. Then they bring back tequila with the worm in it.

I drop and swap at yards along the northern and southern borders works OK for me. Seems like a cage though

You don't need a passport. If you are a native born citizen, you have a right to return. The passport makes it easier but if you claim citizenship at the border and can provide some sort of identification, be it a state issued ID and birth certificate, etc., you will be allowed to return. You won't be denied entry back because you don't have a passport.

As a child I visited T J wanna with my parents. They went in to shop. I remember all the cardboard huts.. Haven't been back thru via Tijuana since. I hear they've cleaned that up.

Juarez has dwarfed Tijuana as the largest city on the border.
El Paso has a population of around 750000 including all the metropolitan area.
Juarez is well over 2 million.dca Thanks this.
