When I brought my truck home I knew it was safe in front of my house.. I am fortunate to live in a good neighborhood.. with watchful neighbors and plenty of dogs...
when I took my home time at my brothers however, I did not feel my truck was safe and secure.. as there had been vandalism and theft in the area...
I not only didnt want there to be damage to my truck... I didnt want any of my belongings stolen... gps, tools, chargers, inverters...
so, I would pay $12 to park my truck at a locked , monitored and patroled storage place..
The $12 was worth it... and if I was going to stay at my brothers every weekend they would charge be by the month which would of been like $5 or $6 bucks a weekend... -
That is not a bad deal a t all. I was once set up to park at an impound yard for a big tow company here. high chain link fencing, barbed wire, lights, and yes, a few guard dogs, that can be seen. But they wanted (to me) a mere $50 per month, unlimited parking times.
Company I was at the time working for said, "wow, great, go ahead and park there, and pay that price"!
I said ok, each month I will enclose the payment receipt in the monthly reports I send in.
They said, "Ok, but you realize that WE DON'T pay for parking"?
I said...OH
I parked it at a sandy lot, in the dark, no security. That'll be the day I pay for something for the truck and or company, and NOT be reimbursed for it.
Had I been an owner of a truck, you bet your bottom dollar, I'd be paying for that security lot instead.bzinger and BrenYoda883 Thank this. -
Big difference, that is an assumed risk, I know parking my car in that lot is a risk, it is an unsecured lot, with no guarantee of safety or security, I make the choice to park there knowing ahead of time it is an unsecured dangerous lot.

Hopefully the company being proactive to prevent it from happening. When I first started with my company in '97, we had a gate that we had to manually close and padlock. Few months after I started we had a trailer stolen from the yard, because someone didn't close and lock the gate. Few years later, it happened again, this time the company went to an electrically controlled gate with a keypad as well as several security cameras. In 2009, a couple of trucks were vandalized in the yard by someone who jumped the fence, changes were made again, the fence was repaired, the barbed wire was repaired/replaced and the gate was updated. We also worked with the sand company behind us to make sure the area near the fence line was graded in such a way that someone would be very difficult to access and climb the fence. -
You know... I do see it differently than you do... the truck is not mine, it is the companies true.. but, they are letting me use it to run loads and get paid... if they didn't, I would have to buy or lease o e to use.... so, it does behoove me to take care of the equipment assigned to me.. and I would never park a truck assiged to me in a sandy dark place because thecompany letting me use the truck to earn money wouldnt reimburse me to park it somewhere costing $50....
when I was in Sales and had an office job I wouldn't tell my boss I couldnt write orders unless they reimburse me for the cost of the pen...
when I was in construction I had to have the tools to do the job.. hammer, square, tape measure, etc... and I had to buy them myself as well as the tool belt to carry them...
when a truck is assigned to, it is my responsibility to take care of it.. and to make sure it is parked somwhere safe and secure..
the annoying thing is... if after your hometime you couldnt drive your truck cause something happened to it in the sandydark place you parked it... you would be wwhining and complaining about not getting paid while you wait for your truck to get repaired.. -
i could take my truck home if i wanted to and got plenty of room but i prefer not to have the hassle of and expense of plugging it in and plowing around it and if somthing like a no start situation arises that becomes my problem ....i got enuf things to work on when im home and dont want to worry about a truck that isnt mine that as long as its in my posession i feel responsible for .
as far as vandalism goes that can happen anywhere and recently did when while my truck was parked at my bosses place a grizzly bear came by for a visit and and got on the hood of my truck for a look in the windshield .
scratched the paint right down to the fibreglass in a couple spots . -
You sure it was a grizzly and not just a driver seeing what kind of equipment you're running in case he wanted a job... a lot of them look and smell the same.
Oh, and on-topic, not a driver issue unless company policy forbids it. Stuff happens, that's what insurance is for; signed, business owner.bzinger Thanks this. -
that was rich ! roflmao !

Can I come work for you? At what point would you draw the line? A bumper? A step? A fender? maybe a hood? That's what insurance is for after all.
