That long hill on 80 in Wyoming coming into Cheyenne??? Not sure. I see a truck way ahead and smoke coming out of a trailer wheel. By the time I get close I see fire start then go away then back again. I see another truck passing him then sees the smoke and fire and gets back behind him. Why? To watch the show and do NOTHING.
Not a word on the CB from anyone. All these jack wads want to see something happen. I get on the CB and no answer. Another flatbed driver comes up in back of me. We talk and he gets in front of the driver with me along side. He slows the truck up and finally he looks over at me with my interior light on saying pull over.
By this time the wheel is on fire pretty good. The other flatbed pulled over. I kept going since I was on the left and others coming.
Wheel assembly comes of truck and kills 2

Running I-30 from Dallas to Little Rock at night while driving a 62 mph truck another truck passed me with sparks flying off the wires of a totally gone outside rear tire. I tried to raise him on the CB, but no luck. Many trucks passed him, trying to hail him and get him to pull over. No luck.
About 30 miles later he was on the side of the road with a fire extinguisher, putting out the fire after the inside tire blew.
I can't comprehend not knowing you've got sparks spraying out your tandems in the middle of the night on a dark freeway, not notice me flashing my high beams for miles, not notice truckers honking and waving at you for dozens of miles, etc.
Clueless driving.DedHedEd, Criminey Jade and Skate-Board Thank this. -
Had a situation near me where the spare came off of a pickup truck (you know they suspend them under the body with a narrow cable). Pickup driver never knew it was gone (poor guy came forward after the accident made the news, old farmer guy) so here's this spare lying in the middle of a dark stretch of the highway at 5am, a lady in a CRV comes along and it's enough to flip her little ute. She was pinned for an hour and died trapped. Ugly.

Years ago, pulling a flatbed, load with reels of phone cable. I was going east on U.S. 22 (before 1-78 just paid my toll at Easton, Pa and entered N.J. started up the hill in Phillipsburg and a cop pulled me over. Come to find out, he stopped me because the left rear tandem on the trailer was gone(both wheels) I never felt anything to indicate this. But anyway, I got into his patrol car and we went back down the road for almost 20 miles looking for the tandem. We were afraid that it had come off and hit someone. We never found it. He escorted me to a garage to have repairs made. I am here to tell you, it can happen and the driver will never notice anything.

I recall back when I was hauling cement one of our trucks was coming back from Little Rock on I-30. North of Prescott, AR he lost the left rear outside rear tire. He just happened to just looked in his left rear view mirror at that moment.
A car was beside him at the time just in front of the rear axles, the tire just barely missed the back end of the car, but the car did not realize he had a very close call at that moment. In that area there was a lots of trees in the median, so the trees stopped it from going into the east bound lanes.
During those days I was going towards Little Rock and was beside of the rest area just south of Malvern, just before passing the entrance ramp. I looked in my rear view mirror saw a motorcycle passing a 18 wheeler back behind me at about the entrance ramp of the rest area and saw the motorcycle go down with the man on it being thrown into the grass area. Later I heard that a wheel had come off of the left rear of the trailer, hit the motorcycle at about the rear tire throwing the man on it into the grass area. His motorcycle was destroyed yet they said he only got a very scratches.
Miracles still happens.201 Thanks this. -

Well that was dumb. Pasted the wrong link. Here is the correct link. Seems the original post is to old to edit. Oh well. Just some more ever lasting proof of my stupidity.
