I have them and as yet I have not lost a tank of fuel. It makes it less convenient for someone to steal my fuel so the will most likely move on to the truck next to me that doesn't have locking caps. That's about as good as it gets.
Winston99 and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
We do have fuel anti siphon insert inside fuel tanks, never got stolen a drop of fuel.
Cheapest way to prevent fuel theft.Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
I'm looking at getting locking caps. I have the anti-siphon inserts and when I go home with full tanks it still lets a fuel thief take about 20 gallons. This has happened twice now.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
Hi Wild Murph, this was discussed to some length a while ago. I guess the general consensus was, it depends where you go. When sleeping, or the truck is left unattended in kind of an open area, or truck stop with an open space next to you, seems to be the worst time for fuel pilferage. Locking caps aren't cheap, ( usually $60 on up each) but clearly pay for themselves in one attempt. If you are concerned about it, ( or it's already happened) I'd go for it, for peace of mind.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
I do not have locking caps & never had any fuel stolen.
My truck does not sit by itself for a long period of time, unless it is in my backyard.Wild Murphy Thanks this. -
Yeah, my fuel also has never been stolen and it does not matter that I don't own a truckWild Murphy Thanks this.

Isnt it a shame we have to think that way to begin with. Down here, we had a prick on his push-bike going through truckies cabs while they slept, or showered or whatever. Some drivers forgot to lock-up and had stuff taken, theres no respect for each other anymore.Wild Murphy and 201 Thank this.

Hi Winston, oh, I know. Years ago, in the '70's, the 1st OTR gig I did was with a friend that had '77 KW W900 with the small crawl-thru sleeper ( the coffin) and from outside, there was a hole in the sleeper floor that you could reach up and open the sleeper door. ( found that out in Jax. Fl. when my friend took off with some gal for the night and I was locked out of the truck). Do sleepers even have doors anymore?
-
Ha. Classic.
Dont think so, just a curtain, but here in Australia we wouldnt do the kms, or miles, that you would, so our sleepers are just enough to get a decent in. We have roadhouses that cater for long haul drivers, open 24/7, showers, laundry, good meals, TV and good CCTV coverage. I was never a long haul driver, I got to a point not long ago, where I decided to get off the road and now I study full time. Ive been driving since I was 19 and now at 33, I have had too many run-ins, near misses, accidents and suicides and decided to give it up.
There are too many ####ing idiots out there now that have no idea how to drive to conditions and give heavy vehicles more room to stop, enough gap between the vehicle in front, enough space to merge. I dont miss it at all to be honest.201 Thanks this.
