Ha ha.
I left my current job. Not because I hated them, not because of politics.
They did freeze overtime 7 months ago. With overtime, I made exactly $1000 per week which I was EXTREMELY happy with. Especially with a class B license. Well, I drove 1 1/2 hrs each way to this job so the ot helped with expenses and stuff. Since Jan 1 I've only had 9 hrs of ot. Since late November 2014 the truck has been broken down for a collective time of over 5 weeks. Add the time down due to this winter in Boston, and you get 8 weeks. I used all my personal time to try and stay afloat. I did some math, and spend all my savings this winter to stay afloat due to missed work due to mechanical issues and snow.
I told them when the put the ot freeze on, that I was gonna go back to school for my CDL A license and had their blessing.
My trucj broke down 2 weeks ago again, the mechanics came up and said they fixed it. What happens last week? The internals on the pump blew up Wednesday.
I had put in my 2 week Monday. Thursday I drove the truck with the broken vaccum pump back to NYC one last time. Cashed out my current earnings and am on paid leave. I had full intention to train the new guy, but I cannot with a broken truck.
I left to try my hand at my dream. To drive out of a box and weak up in new places with new faces and make some money.
hopefully it works out.
if all companies are bad

Need to add : The noob driver wants to drive so he can see the country and all it's wonderous sites. Then realizes quickly that the lines on the road in Texas look just like those in Maine or California.BostonTanker, Vilhiem and G.Anthony Thank this.
-
That's not true. The lines in Mississippi have rumble strips on them!
BostonTanker Thanks this. -
Some are born with diesel in our blood. My whole family drive trucks, buses or heavy machinery. I was always going to drive and as soon as I could, I did.
I got to a point where I had enough, and that was due to third party drivers and their ignorance or arrogance, but I didnt ask for pity or cry a river and the suggestion that thats how a new driver behaves is surprising. Must be different in the states, here its around $1800-$2500 to get your semi licence and not much cheaper for smaller, rigid, so to invest that money then you would want to be certain thats the job you want. Down here, if someone was to complain and carry on, the others would be on his back til he quit or had a mental breakdown. It gives you the ####s when someones constantly sulking. -
So does Missouri and probably many more states.Vilhiem Thanks this.

Over here, it's more like $4000-$8000 for your CDL depending on which ripoff school one chooses. I've heard people claim they paid more than the $8k but I have never seen proof.

####! Thats robbery, you poor buggers.
Is that through a log book type lessons where you get signed off on certain skills or just jump in, drive and they assess you? -
Well THERE IS a CDL Mill here that IS AT $10,000, but I think it is for about 5-6 months
-
I paid around $5,500 to get my A at roadmaster back in '07. It was well worth the investment.
-
I paid 3,600$, worth every penny.
