Well the 2015 RV delivery season is coming to an end. As with 2014 this was another great year for the industry. I did not do ANY tow away this year. It was all drive away. I was fortunate enough to get a ford ranger with a camping shell to tow behind the motorhomes this year.

    Some observations this year-

This was a big travel trailer year - most were under 8000 pounds.
Drive away stayed busy this year until around the beginning of June. I suspect a lot of the local school bus drivers who are off for the summer are back driving motor homes.
There were a lot of oil field workers with CDL’s this year in haul away. It makes sense since that side of the business, both in Texas and North Dakota, fell off a cliff. A lot of them did not have fifth wheel hitches - just goose necks. Did not matter much since they did mostly bumper pulls.

Hopefully the drivers who stay on during the rest of the year stay busy.

No I don’t mind. I feel that I’m about three to four thousand ahead this year. I will not really know until all of the bills are paid, (taxes, repair, Credit card, etc). Keep in mind I only worked part of March, most of April and May, and a little of June. I just did “drive-away”. Big difference between the two. Between the ford ranger and the RV’s I always had a place to sleep.

I have to admit I really don’t look at this as a money making endeavor. I had done seasonal drive-away for 3 of the past 4 years and I have to admit i’m now hooked on Drive-away as long as I can tow my ranger.

I am thinking of doing this. I live off I-80 and drive between Green River Wy and N-central NV daily. I see alot running this route. I have a Ram 3500 w/ Cummins. NOT a dually though. How hard is it to get started? And do you know if husband/wife teams do well? We were thinking one could drive the Ram and the other drive the drive away.

We would do this until we could find and purchase a T/T to haul multiples.

I have determined that I am pretty much done working for companies, and need to work for myself.

Any advice or truth would be greatly appreciated!!!

Just do your research. If your wife has a job with benefits and you are just about set up in your real life - it’s not a bad gig. You will not make a lot of money, but the adventure is worth it. There is a lot of information on the internet. Take it as a hobby and you will do fine. It’s too seasonal to be considered a year round job.
