The mystery of the double dash lines

Or how i spent two days at a volvo dealer.
Driving back from Kansas and going down the 94 just out of the Pilot at Battle Creek the truck shuts down with a bing and SM on the display. But restarts it self and I continue. Did it again outside the rest area at thr 60 yardstick on 69. Whip into rest area clean the fuse for the pump and cross the border. Head into Gerry's in London, oh drove all the way there with the display showing double dash. This means the gearbox has no power and shouldn't be shifting but it does. $324 cdn later and 4 hrs, they only charged 2 hrs. Every thing is back to normal... But is it? Ha nope. Get the flying j ayr, make local delivery in the morning still good go to Concord pull into drop look down doubl dash ah crap. Back to Gerry's arrive 1.30 leave 10.30. They checked everything, wiring, modules

Everything. It was now 940 transmission would not talk to the dash nor the mechanics laptop. They were giving up not because they didn't know but they checked out the whole truck and couldnt find a problem. In disparation i hit the steering wheel and then shooked the wires behind the seat. And Bingo. It was a scene out of "Das Boot" Alive Alive!!!
The low volt AC wires in the harness behind the seat had been trapped at sometime and one was being grounded with a similar compromised DC wire and was shorting out. With that fixed everything had checked out. Computers talked - perfect. But the bill you say! Never heard a mechanic swear so much. Um hows two hours sir? Thanks very much and away I went.
