I have already fallen hook-line-&-sinker for a local trucking job that supposedly paid well/home everynight/etc etc. Well upon the day of my graduation from trucking-school, I called him up to say I was ready to go to work and he was like "blah-blah-blah your postition has been postponed and I hired two other drivers blah-blah-blah." Well anywho.....the past 6-weeks or so has been an uphill battle trying to find a job cause nobody in town is hiring or want experience.....which leads me to my next question. I have been looking # a couple different companies and just wanted to know you're opinion on them. Thanks
Andrus Transportation
Schneider Transportation
C.R. England (they got a dedicated Wal-Mart run here in Cheyenne and are seeking drivers BAAAAD)
Watkins-Shepard
and of course
WERNER.
dun-dun-dun
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have read a few posts and stuff and am a little sketchy about a certain couple companies.....but some firsthand advice from any of you guys that have been with any of these companies would be awesome. Word.
Peace.

If I had those choices, I would choose either Watkins-Shepard or Schneider. Have you talked with Schneider, though? I just checked their website on the job search and says they are not hiring in Wyoming. They do have some things if you live in CO and don't know if, since Cheyenne is so close, they would count that. There are some that don't like Scheider (but that goes for pretty much every company). They do have a fairly good reputation and they have excellent training. Don't know much about Andrus. Go out to the T/A (I believe that is what it is east of town) and talk with drivers from those companies and see what they say. They can answer your questions better than anyone. Good luck in your decision process.

Thanks!!

Schneider is probably your best bet, just because their not hiring in you home town, doesn't mean you can't go OTR all 48 with them..
-
I hope he can. But I know I have talked with Schneider and if the website says they are not hiring in that state, it means they will not hire drivers who live in that state because they will have trouble getting them home. It has nothing to do with 48 state OTR or local jobs.

Hell most companies have a hard time getting you home no matter where you live period. Same answere goes in the last thread I posted in LOL

I guess they feel good telling you they can't so they won't hire. Even if they did hire in NM I don't want to team and they are firm on that; teams only in NM when they are hiring here. Funny thing is there is a Schneider dedicated that comes into my town about once a week for deliveries. Sounds like they could get me home to here but that is the way it goes. I guess if I ever get to move to Dallas I can work for them.

One thing I can say is that I'm a solo driver, and could never drive as a team. Not saying I'm not a team player, but you never know who you will end up with..
-
PawPaw - sure, there's a truck that comes in - but it obviously has a driver. I'm betting he's on a dedicated route, so it would be difficult to route YOU back home on an as-needed basis.
By the way, I drove by your namesake.. or whatever, twice in recent days. PawPaw IL. made me look twice when I saw it on the map. -
I started with Schneider 6 years ago as my first job. One of the reasons they won't hire in fairly isolated areas is the fact that they will NOT, generally speaking, let you take their truck home. You can probably confirm or get that denied by calling them. Hope this helps a little, Gravy!
