Mr. Harper sounds like a real used car salesman. I found work at JB Hunt to be lacking for personal committement and miles. When I went to orientation the President of the company, Kirk Thompson, came up on a video link and said that minimum average miles with JB is over 2,500 per week. I worked there 9-months and rarely acheived 2,500 miles per week. It started off close to the promised miles but fell flat within 3-months time. For example, during one week a got 762 miles total and I worked the entire 7-days that week. JB leaves you sitting with no load and will not pay as they have promised. I also agree with the previous comment regarding their dispatch and middle management. It is sad, lacking in ethical backbone and for the most part full of deception and in-fighting. While Mr. Harper talks a good game, but you hear similar BS coming from any politician or used car dealer these days. I would not trust the promises of JB, Mr. Harper, their recruiters or their staff. Pass up the JB challenge and heed the warnings posted here.

And while we are on the subject, Mr. Harper runs an advertisement REPEATEDLY on the America Trucking Network each and every night:

"Where are all the dedicated jobs? It's a question that I get asked constantly, and JB Hunt has those dedicated jobs. Jobs that give drivers more home time and with miles that still allow drivers to make a good living as well. JB Hunt has over 300 customers offering dedicated positions, and you can get one of those dedicated jobs by calling JB Hunt."....blah blah blah....

The fact of the matter is, that it is very likely that Mr. Harper IS indeed asked all the time about those dedicated jobs. They might well exist too. But the reality of the situation is, the openings for those jobs are few and far between.

Recruiters for JB Hunt will dangle those jobs to hopeful callers, will dangle them into the water like a fly fisherman, and when a driver bites, they snag the line. The driver more often than not, winds up gasping for air by the time it comes to provide the job upon completion of orientation.

If I had a dollar for every time I have been personally told, or read in a written complaint, that a driver will think right up to the last second that all was going well, and then to be told that the job that had been promised was inadvertantly filled, and that the driver would have to go "OTR" until another position opened up, I could retire.

This past January, as I noted in another thread, I spoke in great length over a period of two weeks to JB Hunt recruiters. I was digging into some details of their lease/purchase program. Among one of the more notable things that was a part of those conversations, was the running territory that was supposed to be a part of the position I had originally responded to.

The advertisement in the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the local paper I subscribe to, offered a dedicated position out of the Chattanooga area.

Long story short, after speaking to several recruiters, I discovered that there was no dedicated position. They dropped trailers at the Freightliner dealer in Ringgold, Georgia from time to time, and this was where I would be securing my trailer for time off, and I would be expected to go practically anywhere they needed me to go. The story changed with each person, and most of them were clueless.

Word of warning to anyone seeking to sign on with JB Hunt; There is absolutely NOTHING you can count on to be the truth, when it emanates from the lips of a JB Hunt recruiter....period. They are paid only when they produce a warm body into orientation...period. They will lie to you and tell you what they think you want to hear....period.

I'm not proud enough to admit that I was almost convinced at one time during those two weeks, that alot of what was told about that company was "sour grapes" or other connotation, but by the end of those two weeks of conversing, I knew once and for all that the management of JB Hunt has no shame whatsoever.

Mr. Harper strikes again! Where are all the dedicated driving jobs? The answer is: Only in the dreams, minds and words of JB Hunt recruiters and Mr. Harper. JB uses the dedicated job promise to 'hook" the driver "fish". However, when you go to orientation and waste your time there, that dedicated jobs is "magically" already filled. If you do get one of those dedicated jobs, it will most likely be with a group that other JB drivers stay away from like the plague. In fact, the dedicated group that JB can never keep drivers in is their customer who specializes in glass, windows and chemical coatings. The loads in this group are 40,000+ pounds, usually, and often times HAZMAT. However, this group does not pay the extra money JB promises for in/out of Canada, for drop and hooks or for sitting with no load for days. In fact, in my experience with this dedicated group, I rarely ever had an empty call under 4 to 6 hours drive time, since this customer is very spread out. Driving for this dedicated group also took you mostly to the northeast and upper midwest. I suggest that any driver who wants one of these dedicated jobs with JB should get all the information they can on pay, promised weekly miles and routes before jumping on-board the sinking ship that is JB Hunt. Ask the JB recruiters to send you their written and signed promises regarding these "prized" dedicated jobs and see if you can get them to put their "money where their mouth is". NOT! Last, since I believe Mr. Harper has never placed his sweet talking corporate posterior in a JB unit for any length of time, I believe you should request that Mr. Harper ride along with you for a week or two so that he can see how JB Hunt really treats their drivers. I bet Mr. Harper is probably much too busy for this challenge. I am sure his sweet talker is much too soft from so many catered corporate luncheons to survive long in a over-the-road JB Hunt sleeper unit. The new JB Hunt motto - We Bait-and-Switch Better!

They are calling me 1-2 times a day on my home phone, and now are calling my cellphone once a day. I asked to be removed from the database, and the calls keep coming. Again, they called this morning and woke me up.

All the calls start out with:
    (1) I've got a local job out of Nebraska....
    (2) I've got a dedicated run out of Omaha....
    (3) I've got a great postion.....
There are no local jobs with JB Hunt, and there are no dedicated runs open. This is bait and switch, and the ongoing fraud that I'm currently suing them for. (Explanation for any new members-I was lured away from a good local job to work for JB Hunts Weyerhauser dedicated daily run. I got to orientation, and was told that job was filled, and I was going into the OTR operations. I walked out, and called a lawyer.)

This company is desperate!! They were calling once a week for the past 3 weeks, now its gotten out of hand. I think they are doing it to harrass me. They fill my cellphone voice mail daily. I get there 800 number left in my voice mail so much I have it memorized from repetition.

    Craig Harper....YOU STINK!

Hi everyone just wanted to give you an update. Hubby returned the truck on 4/5/06 and he insisted on having the truck inspected in his presence and he got a signed form stating the truck was brought back in good condition. We also had pictures taken of the truck before he brought it back. We are now waiting for our escrow monies to be returned. We have warned them that if they try to pull something our attorney is ready to file the suit papers. We are not members of that org skull how can we join.

You sound like you have everything under control thus far, and are in a fantastic position in this thing. I am VERY interested in what deductions from escrow and maintenance accounts occur. PLEASE...PLEASE...post the details, if you feel comfortable in doing so, when all is settled.

You're experience will lend more help to others who are considering these type of arrangments, and if my suspicions are on target, you will be less than thrilled in 45 days, because my bet is that they will find something, or a bunch of somethings to charge against those account(s).

Then again, because I know for a fact that interested eyes of that company are monitoring this site, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Thank you so much for offering your insight into them. Every time someone exposes the crap that so many drivers are subjected to, it helps bring a slow but painful death to a company that will use drivers as economic slaves or force them to amend their policies. Either way, it raises the standards for everyone.
