    Hypothetical Question...
You have a load. Its under gross. But you cant get it legal on one of your axles without sliding the tandems too far back for the bridge law... whats a worse offence to be caught for.... over axle weight or over length??

Depends on the officer. Posted above they want length over weight.

One of our drivers was in CA and had the tandems almost a foot long. She was pulled into a barn for inspection and that is when the DOT officer noticed, due to the feet marks on the floor. Driver explained she moved them back to keep the weight legal. Officer said, "Oh. OK", finished the inspection and sent her on her way with no tickets or violations.

I've been told it's better to be heavy on an axle or group than too long. Never been to Cali in a truck, so I wouldn't know about that.

We have a couple of long slide Great Danes that get sent to Florida to scale the short loaded and heavy back hauls.Really serious tail swing with those 2 but it would be nice for some of the close and narrow places I end up in.
