Spent my first year doing OTR with Werner.

Bad days and good days. Some restarts were taking in the middle of nowhere and all I did was watch TV on my laptop.

Other times I took restarts in Denver, rented a car and hiked a 14er with my dog. Another time took a restart in Jersey, took the PATH train over to NYC and hung out with my cousin. I even got to take one out in Indio and caught up with an old friend. I've seen some amazing stuff. Star filled skies, pronghorns running wild, blizzards, monsoons, and some really really weird #### at truck stops.

Overall though, I have to say my experience with OTR was a negative one. I was in great shape before starting, but then the bad food, lack of exercise and stress caught up with me. Finally I got a 5day/week gig and am much happier. Working out, cooking meals, sleeping in my own bed, dog gets more exercise. But I wouldn't trade my experience.

It is what you make of it, but the bottom feeder companies pay so little that it's hard to stay optimistic.

Best of luck to all you guys and stay safe.

I actually gained weight driving local, and have lost it since going back OTR. I got a cooler, and stock it with healthy food(salad, fruit, turkey, etc )
On the local run, I would drive half hour to work, do a 14 hour shift, and then drive the half hour home. OTR I have an 11-12 hour shift generally. When I stop I'm home.
I have time to walk an hour after I stop, and do a quick little 20-30 minute kettlebell routine in the morning.
A lot of that has to do with my state of mind though. I will say when I started with England, I lost a lot of weight. I just couldn't afford to eat. So I would go dumpster diving for food. I looked like a castaway

Same with me.... I can see and feel the overwhelming disgust in me when shippers , receivers, and guards get that "this is just another stupid driver".
My reactions are WRONG!!! BUT VERY EFFECTIVE. (Only for the moment...the anger keeps eating at me like a cancer...IM THE LOOSER).
