Con-Way Truckload Drivers: What's Your 20? (2014 edition)

AC out again, 3rd time. I'm sweating in KCMO

 

Time for new truck! My AC was going out as I was getting rid of it.

 

Not quite yet, 450k

 

Out of curiosity, what is your company telling you to do? Sit and sweat? No way!!!!!

 

I had a choice to go in to the shop on the 2nd of July (would have still been there today) or take 2k miles worth of loads, a bit over half of that with hazmat / ne pay on them. Then put the truck in the shop today. I elected to put it in the shop today, may as well make some money.

 

I should have gone with that plan! I pulled into Joplin on the second, my trucks still at Kenworth. I was under a load from Laredo to Chicago too. I was stuck between the money and the risk of breaking down somewhere. Live and learn, I still think I made the right call, and the fireworks show from my hotel room was actually pretty good!

 

Last OTR company I worked for would have given me a loaner truck so I could keep making money. While not ideal, it beats sitting around waiting.

Cargo can probably tell you how to get the most money possible out of this situation.

 

Conway would reseat me but I like my truck.

 

Yeah quit and get a real paying job


Screw that pennies per mile crap.

 

I build custom pcs as a sideline, netted 18k last year off it. I also bought some single wide trailers and started renting them out, but it will be two years or so before I see returns on that
