Friend of mine is buying a truck and wants me to drive for him. Offering me 40CPM and profit sharing. I have no clue if that is a reasonable offer.
I was thinking I would rather just get paid a percentage of each load. Or even better, get paid a flat weekly salary ($1400?) to drive as many miles as is needed.
I thought I'd see what other O/O have to say. If someone can steer me about the right questions to ask I would be most grateful.
New o/o is offering me a job

1099 or W2?
Explain the profit sharing.baha Thanks this. -
Can you see your friend being your boss?

I was thinking along the same lines. Quickest way to end a friendship is to go into business with a friend.
-
I like him and trust him. I think the answer is yes. I would rather work for him than be a business partner with him. That way if I'm not being treated right I can just walk away.

Does he have the cash to keep afloat till things get going. Not 1-2 weeks but several months.

Need a lot more details. Who's dispatching? 40 cpm on how many miles? What's profit sharing. What kinda trailer are you pulling? Any Bennys? Detention? Breakdown pay? Loaded and empty or loaded only?
-
Need a LOT more details. Is there enough company structure for a 401K program? Is there profit already? Like MJ said, 1099 or payroll makes a major difference. Seen the rates on Obabacare? Self-employment tax? Take a hard look, think of your own future.
MJ1657 Thanks this.
