I just passed my DMV test and have my CDL-A, I have tanker and hazmat endorsements plus a TWIC card.
I have been talking with Schneider and Prime, but can't really decide who to go with. Any current drivers who would be willing to give me their advise would be appreciated. Or is there someone else I should consider?
Thanks in advance
Hal

I did my first 6 months with Schneider; they'll definitely keep miles on you if you're hitting ETA/NATHOS but I had to leave because I wasted an incredible amount of time running around looking for MT trailers, or sitting due to maintenance or the CS/box planner didn't know the difference between 6am or pm. You're going to run into that at any of the megas, just a fact of life/part of paying your dues when getting into this industry. Your best best is to send a pm to username: chinatown, and tell him where you're at geographically. Most likely he'll be able to suggest some better options... cheers.

Congratulations. That's great. Where in CT are you? What school did you attend?
-
I'm in West Haven, and went to a Driving School in Seymour, don't know if I can mention name of the school.

Sweet. I am in Fairfield. Grew up in Branford, tho.I've been looking at that school, too. Were they as good as them seem

I don't know about Schneider, but Prime has an excellent new driver program. Down side is ya gotta drive REALLY slow to hit their mileage requirements.

Schneider Bulk would be best; it's hazmat/tankers.
Do you just want tankers? -
If you want reefers, Earl Henderson Trucking pulls Prime trailers and hauls Prime freight and gets in the hammer lane blowing by those Prime trucks.
Freymiller is another coast-to-coast reefer outfit with good reputation.hal380 Thanks this. -
Hello Chinatown, I was hoping to hear from you, yes I have a tanker endorsement, hazmat and twic card. Schneider will not put me in tankers/bulk right away, need 1 yr experience first.

I like them very much. They don't do "Group Lessons". It's one on one instruction. Every hour of instruction is in the truck, in the yard and on the road. The instructors are "Real Drivers", not just theoretical drivers. The only downside was that you didn't have the same instructor for each lesson. Sometimes Pete, and sometimes Rich, and other times Don, Doug, Dom or Dave. All good, but different styles. New facility and the trucks are ok, good enough for learning maneuvers etc. They have a good video library which helps. The other issue is that their course is short, 45 hrs and not all trucking companies will accept them for their hiring quals. I don't see this as a bad thing, because the two companies I am looking at have what I call "Finishing School".
Hope this helps, send me a PM and maybe we can get together for coffee.
Regards
Hal
