im wondering if since marijuana's legal in those states, on your off days are you prohibited to partake or not?

obviously never being high while working, just on your days off at home.

Trucking is regulated at a Federal level. It goes above what local state law declares. So you would be in violation, and subject to losing your cdl should you show positive on a tinkletest, no matter where you live.

Go ahead and do it before orientation. That way there is a guarantee you will not be on the road with us. Is it really that important to you that you need to smoke it?

DOT is federal. State laws don't apply.

Rule of thumb for any future questions of that nature or other natures...

When you remain in one state, state law applies primarily UNLESS the area in question is federally governed.

In that case, whichever area has the most strict laws is what applies.

This applies to 99% of laws in the U.S.

...I personally don't want you on the roads under the influence anyways. Legality aside.

FYI, under the influence means it's detectable in the human body. Not when you stop feeling the effects of it.
