    Guys,

I have had so many ideas regarding where we should move to when in the United States, but now that I have my Immigrant Visa, we decided to be by family and Indiana it is - not Texas or any of the other cool States. Nothing wrong with Indiana of course as it is really beautiful with amazing people. I should know, my wife is from Indiana :)

My goal is to become an LTL driver, but I understand I might have to go over the road to gain the necessary experience.

My question, I am wondering if there are any trucking companies in Indiana that will pay for your CDL as well as offer you a local driving position? If no, how about a regional driving position?

I am also wondering if you guys would be able to guide me a little in terms of trucking companies in Indiana - who should I apply at first? I will visit family in Valparaiso and then I am free and willing to go anywhere in Indiana. I noticed there are quite a few driving jobs in the Valparaiso area and interestingly several in Gary Indiana which would not be too far away...

I would really appreciate any guidance and advice - thanks so much in advance!

Celadon built a new training facility in Indy. Too and board furnished. Guaranteed job when you are done. Read the small print that goes with this offer. Good luck.

    Tigerroad Thanks this.

Most of it not all the trucking company have a facility in Indiana. And Gary is the home for those big companies. However Indiana you will definitely find a local or regional trucking job pretty much anywhere you chose to live. In my opinion be withing these three cities. INDY, FT WAYNE OR SOUTH BEND.

Tigerroad, it is not a question of IF there are carriers in Indiana, but WHAT do you want to drag behind your tractor. Dang near everybody either has a yard near Gary, IN (which is not that far from Valparaiso), or rolls that area so frequently they should.

So do you want to pull box, flat, tanker, or something else? Once you answer that, you'll be ready to start researching carriers.

    Tigerroad Thanks this.

Move to Indianapolis or to one of the towns just outside of it...you will be able to have your training paid for and do LTL without having to go OTR or Regional.

DO NOT get caught up in that Celadon bs as someone mentioned above.

Longarm, Tigerroad and TruckDuo Thank this.

Thegig, I would never have guessed that Gary is home to most trucking companies, great for me I guess :)
I really appreciate your time and guidance, I will be researching those cities - have only heard good things...any companies you can recommend to this newbie? Thanks again!

Brsims, thank you very giving me a little more perspective, think I need to be researching the options you have highlighted, certainly making me think! Do you think all the options would be available to a newbie and would you recommend getting my CDL through a carrier or pay for it myself? Have an awesome day and thank you for your time, appreciate it more than you will ever know!

77smartin, I think your advice is exactly what I am looking for and I suppose it makes sense to move to Indi or near by - possibly more options and opportunities. The reason for saying so, I want to do trucking for many years to come...any carriers you can recommend that will provide training? I am sure you have better things to do with your time than to answer my questions, but your guidance is MUCH appreciated...have a good day!
