Been away from OTR for a while, speed limiters still on the way?

When I stopped driving OTR, there was a lot of talk about black boxes and limiting speed for all trucks to 62/65 MPH. Is this still coming or is it still just a lot of talk?

I would like to get back into OTR at some point but not is this is going to be the law of the land one day.

Many bigger companies have governed their trucks to 62. No serious effort to make it law that I know of so its still real easy to find a gig without governors.

There are indeed situations where limiting truck speed is really stupid idea. I have no clue how fast my truck will go, as I have never had it that fast to find out. Have been up to 85 a couple of times, but still had room above that. But I generally run around 62-65 mph. I don't feel or have the need to press it faster.

While we all know that something is coming, we have no clue yet what the mandated speed limiter setting will be. it could be 70 for all we know. We'll just have to wait and see. 65 is pretty good guess, but no one really knows except those that are putting regulations together.

And a problem always leads to creativity. Even if the limiter is set in the ECM on a truck, there are many ways to get around it. Detroit motors are great in that they have ways of tweaking an ECM so that, even though the limiter is set and shows that to anyone plugging in to check, there are other settings deep in there that allows one to tweak the ECM into allowing going faster than the limiter is set for. Just a matter of knowing how to do it. Since some of the provinces of Canada have jumped on this speed limiter bandwagon, a cottage industry has grown up around tweaking ECM's to do things many users had no idea that can be done. Like I stated, any problem leads to creative ways to get around it.
