Instead of dealing with the driver shortage by increasing pay, and improving working conditions, the lowlifes at the ATA and congress are trying to make the roads even more dangerous than they already are.

I don't have a problem with this. Uncle Sam will give them a rifle and a ride to the desert. Why shouldn't they be allowed to drive commercially? I got my CDL at 19 (had intrastate restriction) and the only thing that got hurt was a hand rail in Green Bay.
I'm all for better pay and working conditions, but I'd still rather see 19 year olds behind the wheel than more "imports" doing the job.The Boy Wonder, Joetro, Dreamboat and 8 others Thank this. -
AMEN!!!Blackshack46, Dreamboat and cnsper Thank this.

I have to agree with that!

I've been in the desert with a rifle, but I was heavily trained to do so.
I don't think just a few years of having a drivers license is enough to drive to tons down the road.
You may have been more mature than most at age of 19, statistically speaking teens get in a very very high rate of accidents. I just don't think it's a good idea to let them behind the wheel of a 40 ton vehicle on the same roads our families drive on.
Most under the age of 21 tend to make bad decisions.
I hear you about the "imports" higher pay and better working conditions would attract more to this profession. Which would eliminate the need for texting teens and imports that barely speak English .Mudguppy and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
I would take them over imports any day. But I do agree that more than the average training would be necessary.

I see no issue with it. In my province you can get your class 1 cdl at 18 with no restrictions. There hasn't been much of an issue with it either. It sucks that my generation gets stomped on all the time. Makes it so the few of us that have our #### together have to work that much harder to prove ourselves.
Sharps5090 and Flyer Thank this. -
fast and the furious..... in big trucks? LOL
I can't wait to see how they customize them vs the old timers and I would love to see a drag race that has two trucks filled with two young bucks looking to prove a point
That would be funny! -
Very well put. I think it would be the rare exception rather than the rule finding kids (yeah, I said it....I'm old enough to!) that young that are mentally and psychologically mature enough to handle a big rig safely. I know for #### sure I wasn't anywhere close to being able to handle that responsibility until well after I turned legal drinking age!
Not to mention, if this were to become law.....The current driver wages would definitely go down even more than they have in the past twenty years, due to younger/less experienced people working for less, regardless of what industry it is. I just think it's a bad idea all around, and a barely disguised attempt by the ATA etc. to get even cheaper labor to boost their profits, at the risk/expense of the motoring public. Just my humble $.02.....Luke628 Thanks this. -
No worries they can't parallel park a car let alone a truck
