In other words, you were told this a long time ago, by someone who is more than likely not even "professing" anymore.
Here is the word that comes to my mind: GOOFY!
I guess wiki has some uses, but I never take what it says for gospel.![]()
Is the worst local job better than the best OTR job?

Big Don; you're are probably correct, but I still adhere to it all the same, the word irregardless just sounds and looks totally f'ed up to me.
p.s. even my spellcheck underlines that word...Big Don Thanks this. -
To have no regard for the lack of regard?
-
I think I'm just going to disregard that post of street beater! Irregardless of his intent when he made the post!

Vilhiem and street beater Thank this. -
Yeah, it must be a word now. Even my phone wants to type out the word irregardless for me...
Then again, these phones are part of the reason people can't English very well anymore.

Amen to that! I've got one grandkid that flatly won't talk on his phone, but is constantly on it texting. And this kid has his master's in electrical Engineering. Too bad he didn't take a class on interpersonal communications!.Vilhiem Thanks this.

I "had" to get into texting at my old job... Ugh... Nobody wanted to pick up their phone, but would reply immediately if I texted them.
It's fine for small stuff. I've had my mom text her grocery list to me and things like that... But I do and don't understand carrying on whole conversations with people.
My fiancée and I text back and forth constantly. Primarily because AT&it is a PITA and charges obscene amounts for phone calls. (I have ways around it, but she still gets charged). But so much gets lost in the face of a text.Big Don Thanks this. -
What bugs me, is that I have an old style flip phone. It is a true PITA to text with. And from what I've seen of these "smart phones," it has better sound quality, which is very important to me, with my hearing loss, and better coverage. So I'm not in a hurry to replace it.
Vilhiem Thanks this. -
(newbie chiming in here)
I currently work at a company that fixes cell phones and sells phone "plans" I am on net10 for $50 a month unlimited everything nationwide. It includes so much "highspeed" data and then slows down. they also have a $35 dollar unlimited plan that has less "highspeed" data. I bought a new phone but you can also use your old phone and you can use either AT&T or Verizon coverage. I got it because Im (hopefully) just starting out and don't want to pay ridiculous $$$ for calls or roaming. -
I worked a local job for a year after being OTR for my first 2 years.
It sucked. I made way less money. I flipped in and out of trucks and didn't have any stuff with me the few times I got stuck waiting somewhere.
I felt like I was only home long enough to sleep and it was time to get up and go back to work. After working all night I would come back to the yard and have to fight with the dispatchers who were just showing up for work. Drivers were late or calling in sick and they would try to make night shift pull a double shift to cover off the day loads.
I had to work 7 days a week to make less money than I made when I had 8 days a month off.
After a year I finally approached my boss and asked about going OTR. I worked 4.5 days each week and earned almost double what the local work paid.L.B. Thanks this.
