My 2009 volvo used a radiator oil cooler just like a pickup or car. It had a 565 ISX cummins with a 13 speed. Many other trucks use this set up to.

I don't know what your issue is, but I can tell you that we have several 13 speeds with water cooled transmissions behind 475 Acerts. On a hard pull, they run about 20 degrees hotter than the coolant, on the flats, they usually settle in around 5-10 degrees above water temp.

I have seen a lot of trans cooler failures that put coolant in the trans. A few did not show any gear oil in the radiator tank, but it was in there sludging things up. I drained the coolant and just a little bit came out, so I did a quick flush on the radiator. Not too long after, we had a problem with the compressor passing oil and I found that one coolant hose to the compressor was totally plugged with the same sludge, so I replaced the compressor and hoses and did a good thorough flush. Even then, the radiator tank looked fine. A little coolant in trans oil mixes to a grayish sludge with the consistency of mayonnaise. It can get stuck in places and never make it up to the top to be visible though the cap.

I'd drain some out of the trans and make sure there is no coolant in it. It could be just starting to leak. In extreme cases, I've seen the trans leak from the input shaft from being overfilled with antifreeze. Kind of obvious at that point when the driver had to add a few gallons of antifreeze. If it's just starting, you may have not lost enough coolant to notice.

the only trans that I know of that is watercooled is the 18 speed,(it is external) most 13s have a small radiator type cooler and a pump inside the trans to flow the oil..Lower Hp trucks with 9 speeds and 10 speede don't always have a cooler.

They didn't, never heard of a water cooled trans, I've heard of them having OIL coolers......

If you've got water in your trans, you've got bigger problems.

My 2002 kw t800 13 speed is water cooled. It's an American truck. My 99 Volvo had an external air cooler 13 speed. My dad's 2000 Volvo 13 spd is water cooled.

So it probably depends on specs, but every single newer truck I've looked at has a water cooler.

I have absolutely no idea how to get water jackets from water cooled. We aren't talking about an engine here.

They are referring to water cooled oil cooler. Always looked at it as more a oil warmer. Cooling 200* oil with 210* water ? Looked like they were speced more in cold climates ?
