they drilled out the dpf and reflashed the ecm when he took it to dealer he got two estimates one for replacing dpf and reflashing ecm and the other was for what he took it in for, he was told that he had to replace dpf before he could take the truck. they're also testing for egr systems now it's getting tougher and tougher out there they're really coming down on emmission system 5 years ago noone cared if you had plugged egr or drilled dpf now they're starting to check and it's only going to get worse in the coming years.

If all it took to fix the problem was for it to rain I'd say the radiator has something to do with it.

If it hasn't been done yet it's due for a flush and coolant change.

you don't need a flush and coolant change just make sure you wash out the outside of your radiator or the fins they get dirt and dust built up and the cooling efficiency goes to #### if you was out with hose from inside out you should take care of the issue u can flush and change coolant but it aint going to help if you can remove radiator and wash it that would be ideal had this kind of issue a million times.

Open the hood..n driver side by the firewall ..about 7-8inch down from the tractor valve behind all the air lines u will see a small black 2inch radius box attached to the firewall..its kinda hidden..you hv to get n the tire to c it..i forgot whatz it called but explain it to the dealer...u can replace it urself. Its cheap. Most common problem..it regulates the fan. If that doesnot help then go for fan clutch. Unless its not doing regen thn thatz whole different thing..but can help with that too if i can.

Sounds like an EGR issue... hot exhaust gas because its being recirculated, blowing smoke out the stack, engine derate...
